a grandfather was a sea captain with the rank of Commodore. admirals pay. Merchant Marine fleet out of Brooklyn during ww2. he is an example of how the mob pitched in during the war effort. they got it done at the brooklyn naval yard.
he and my grandmother were very connected and effective. she was president of the democrat women of naussau county long island.
power couple in those times.
my 4 and 5 yr old take was he was a scary thug. he carried weapons.
she was an angel.
Fwiw my dad was a pilot from 1936 to 1960.
cargo from India to China.
wounded over Italy 26th daylight mission.
flew a glider at Normandy for 82nd airborne.
not high rank.
later in career taught pilots.

When I was 7 years old, my Daddy got called to Washington and promoted to command a top secret special forces unit that responds to the most urgent threats around the world on a moment's notice. That's why he's never been able to call or visit me - it could put us all at danger.
i did get to see him briefly one time when he was on a special undercover mission to identify a terrorist cell that was based out of the Walls unit at Huntsville state prison.

Wife’s grandfather was rear admiral of the navy. Never met him but sounds like he was an impressive man.
I have a friend that is a Colonel in the Army. That’s all I got.

Jean Baptiste Plauché (28 January 1785 – 2 January 1860) was a Louisiana soldier and politician. He was lieutenant governor of Louisiana from 1850 to 1853 under Governor Joseph M. Walker.[1]

quote:
In the Battle of New Orleans, Major Plauché headed the Bataillon d'Orleans militia. He had formed the battalion from five uniformed companies and with the assistance of Senator Edward Livingston. At the time (December 1814 – January 1815), he was 29 years old. Colonel Andrew Jackson was so impressed with the performance of the Bataillon d'Orleans and Plauché that he praised them in a letter before he left the city. After Jackson's retirement from public life, he and Plauché kept up a friendly correspondence. Plauché later rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Legion of Louisiana.[2]
Next time you here this song...think of me

My grandfather was a Sergeant Major in the army when he retired. About as high as he could go I believe.

Friend of mine's dad retired as a Major General in the Air Force.
He had to retire early because he fell off a ladder and it fricked him up.
He now has the mentality of someone with a learning disability.
