I cracked me up at how excited people would get at those well done lumps of well done shite they called steak that the MKT's would occasionally put out.

Fleet Admiral
General of the Army
General of the Air Force

Five star ranks. Unless someone here is related to the following:

William Leahy
Ernest King
Chester Nimitiz
Bull Halsey
George C. Marshall
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Douglas MacArthur
Omar Bradley
Hap Arnold

No one here has such a claim.

My Dad retired early 21 years due to health issues as a colonel, Army Air Force later the Air Force and had worked for General Curtis LeMay in SAC. We weren’t allowed to use the home telephone during the Cuban Missile Crisis and I recall a few solemn phone calls at night from the General as I eavesdropped.

One of my platoon buddies in Nam and I both got transferred to Marine Barracks Pearl afterwards. His dad was a 2 star Admiral and would send his car to pick us up for the occasional Sunday evening dinner. The two flags on each side of the front bumper had covers, indicating he was not in the car.

For two lowly enlisted Marines it was fricking awesome.

General Smallwood. Great x 3 grandfather. On Washingtons personal staff. His portrait hangs in the Capital Rotunda.

Fortunately, I did not inherit the “Smallwood”.

My father incinerated yellow people in a B-29 in the Spring of 1945. He flew search and rescue missions during the Korean War, and seemed to enjoy that work much better than firebombing women and children.

He was proud of his service, but I think he had his regrets. He was extremely pissed off when my older brother joined the Army to pay for med school. Like REALLY pissed.

Sidenote: Whenever he wore an Air Force cap or shirt and people would ask what he did, his stock answer was "I worked for Curtis LeMay." Which, technically, everyone in SAC did. But his history ran back a little bit further.
