I think Chewy.com has it for like 93.00 for 6-months worth (40-60lb dose).

Be careful. Lots of these online pet pharmacies are out of China and sell counterfeit products.

I found this out last year and my dog almost died. This was through amazon pet too. I didn't realize I bought through a reseller instead of being directly sourced by amazon.

Yep. I'd been buying what I thought was Trifexis online and my dog got heartworms. It may have just been a freak thing but it also might not have been Trifexis. I just buy stuff over the counter from my vet now to be sure - Advantage multi and nexguard. Probably going to the twice yearly heartworm shot after I exhaust her current meds.

It's not worth the mental anguish and financial investment that could result from your dog getting heart worms to save a few bucks on meds that might not work or worse.

dogs dont need heartworm treatment 12 months out of the year. only during months skeeters are out. Also they dont need them every month. Takes 3 months for the mosquito bite to infect to the point of heartworms, you can give treatment anytime within 3 months of the bite and be fine. I give my dogs treatment in March, June, sept. And never once had one test positive for HW. Alot of false news out there to get your money.

Have you ever been to Louisiana? Obviously some months are worse than others but the skeeters never really leave here.

Lots of bad info in this post here. Dogs need heartworm preventative year round in the southeast. Northern climates in just the mosquito season. Check with a local vet in your area. The life cycle for heartworms is about 6 months, not 3.

All of the legit websites still require your vet to approve right? Years ago I tried this online and my vet is my friend, like 30 minutes later he texted me WTF man.

I thought they just needed to know your vet, not that they required the Vet to actually approve the prescription.

I agree pet drugs like Trifexis is an absolute racket of a price. Its been out for years now, it should be like $10 for a year supply. But I don't think there is a cheap alternative outside of generic Chinese stuff. Yes I know Vets make a killing off of prescriptions. Which I don't even understand why we need a prescription for a pet anyway, should all be over the counter.

As others have mentioned, some online vendors are not selling the real product. Check with your vet as mine will price match so I can ensure I am getting best price and the correct product.

Be careful buying pet medication online. If you buy the meds from a vet and your dog gets heartworms while on the treatment, they (the pharma company) will pay for the vet to care for your dog. They won't pay if you bought from someplace like 1800 petmeds--they'll only cover if you buy from an authorized vendor. We're likely talking about $1k+ in vet bills if your dog gets ill.

All heartworm preventatives are prescription medicines. You need prescriptions for many medicines for pets, such as antibiotics, steroids, pain meds, etc. Otherwise people would abuse their use, not know how much, how often, or how long to treat, etc.

I never said you shouldn't get a vet recommendation, but that doesn't mean you should need a prescription to buy them. Same goes for humans. The USA and prescriptions is ridiculous. How hard is it to give your dog one pill a month? I'm sorry but you don't need a vet for that.
