we don't have one. my wife would find herself staring at the time in the middle of the night. now she just checks her phone. same result.
we do have an old fashioned clock with hands in the bathroom, so if I really want to know the time if I get up, I can look at that.

I have this exact model 1980s GE digital alarm clock. It sits not on the nightstand, but a tall chest of of drawers. I can see it at a glance if I awake in the middle of the night.
I have it sitting away from the bed. I have to actually get out of bed to turn off the alarm. No rolling over and hit snooze.

Google hub works fine for me. I also enjoy the quality of the speaker for music

Not to sound to 1984'ish but I like to think my devices are not listening.

As your cell phone charges next to it?

I get that point but my cognitive dissonance lets me sleep at night.
I almost never need to charge my phone at night.
Not that it isn't listening 24/7.

I wonder if GenZ or kids today know how to read those.

I have two Gen Z kids. Neither want anything to do with clocks. They are like why?, I have a phone.
They both know how to read one, and not just the digital kind.

I have a Sony shaped like a cube that projects the time on the ceiling.
Also has a USB charger and some nature/white noise sounds.

I never realized that ceiling projection was so popular. Sounds I get, but time on the roof is odd to me.

That is why mirrors on the ceiling are so popular in some bedrooms.

It’s too bright though.
I too despise looking a bright arse phone screen to find out the time. You can try wrapping some gauze like fabric over the display like the out of production Soundcore Wakey:

My Grandfather has the same clock/radio on his night stand he bought in the 1970s .
He said that damn thing will still be working after he’s gone.

After 40 years the alarm stopped working, so now that clock is on my desk at work, the radio still works.
every few months someone over 45 comes into my office and comments on it

Sangean CL-100 weather radio.

It'll wake me up, the alarm on my phone doesn't. Set the alarm to a radio station, high volume

That’s mine. It’s been in my room since I was 6 years old and I’m over 40 now.

I have a Bose Clock radio on my night stands in both houses. At the dimmest setting it's hard to read the time.
I also charge my apple watch on top of the clock radio and if I need to check the time, I just hit the night stand and it turns the watch clock on, which is easy for me to read since the font is much bigger.
Works for me.
