I did, I think they discontinued them because you were able to make meth.

I just played sports or built tree houses or went fishing in ponds.

I did like to blow shite up and light stuff on fire, but that was more just stealing the gasoline from our lawnmower shed and using that.

I did. I put all the sulfur in the lid of a Mason jar and put it over the burner until the sulfur caught on fire. Inside the house.

Then I didn't have a chemistry set anymore.

I had one in the 70's, so it probably was full of banned substances. They were so cool. I wanted a Biology set but never got one. Had to wait until high school biology to dissect that frog.

We used to pour a couple cups of granulated pool chlorine on ant piles then pour a little bit of brake fluid on top of it. It would make a huge plume of chlorine gas and then ignite and burn the ants up.

Good times

I stumbled upon some unique chemistry by accident. I was at a friend’s house and spilled some brake fluid into a bucket of those pool chlorine granules. After a brief delay, it smoked, then burst into flames.

I remembered that later in life and used it in a high school speech class as part of a demo for making improvised explosives. I got an A and the teacher was impressed. Trying that today would get me on a terrorist watch list.

I had one and got it taken away from me. If I recall I was not supposed to play with it unless my dad was around, but of course I didn't listen.. I think I mixed a bunch of shite together in a test tube and involved fire. All I really remember is that I got it taken away from me.

Nothing that fancy but everyone had them in the early 60's.

Friend/neighbor of Edgar and Johnny Winter told me that their entire garage was turned into a chem lab. Both were freakin geniuses in school.
