I work in downtown Lexington and get asked nearly every day at lunch for quarters. WTF are homeless people spending quarters on?

Yes, but I stipulate that they must spend it on booze or drugs and not on food.

Before they can even finish asking the question, I firmly tell them no while making a I-smell-a-fart face.

I try not to encourage them.

I have a crap ton of old clothes and I usually keep a few things in my trunk to hand out. If I see somebody at an intersection with a sign I usually stop at a convenience store if I have time and buy a bag of trail mix or something somewhat healthy and go back and hand it to them. I rarely carry cash and not sure if I would give it to them even if I did.

I'll give them $5 for a half pint of cheap vodka

Because they don't have any fricking money.

Yeah I know. Thats not my point though, I'm trying to say that I dont really care if they spend it on food or Taaka. I would give money to a charity if I cared that much.

Just give them alcohol. They will be thankful.

Well maybe you should care. Give your money to St Judes for those kids fighting for their lives instead of the worthless beggars who don't want a job.

I keep leftover Gustov MREs in my trunk and hand them out.
They don't seem too happy....

No, I'm not going to give st Jude a couple dollars. That would be pretty embarrassing, I'll donate to them when I actually can make a decent contribution. The homeless matter also btw, but it's not like I'm slinging 20$ a week out here....maybe a dollar or two every once in a while. Can barely even remember the last time a homeless person came up to me anyway. But I guess this makes me a bad person for giving them money right?

I do; probably way to often. I believe in Karma and either I will get it back, or they are screwing themselves even more and will pay for their shady deeds.

No. I pay enough in taxes already.

I have payroll donations deducted every week for the Capital Area United Way. I wish that we could chose a better charity like the food bank and such, but I still count it as giving to the homeless.

A few months ago my wife & I were in Miami for Ultra Music Festival. There were homeless people everywhere begging for money & what not. We were going to a grocery store to pick up some snacks & what not & we came across a middle aged black woman sitting outside the store who was asking people for money so she could buy something to eat. We told her that we were not carrying any cash but that we would buy her something to eat if she was hungry. She pretty much dismissed us & went on trying to hustle the people walking behind us. Well we went into the store & got what we needed. I got the woman a turkey & cheese deli sandwich, a bag of chips and a 20 oz. coke. When we walked outside the woman was still sitting in the same spot. We walked over to her & my wife handed her the food. She said "WTF is this shite? I don't eat this shite. I want some cooked food, not this grocery store bullshite!" I was blown away to say the least...
