the wife and i enjoy going to "higher end" restaurant on a fairly regular basis, once or twice a month. i'd say you're exaggerating with that price point or are buying a fair amount of high priced alcoholic drinks. for the last place we went was 2 apps, 2 entrees, two desserts with tip and was 190.
its something we really enjoy and are pretty frugal otherwise so the pricing at these places has never bothered me. You can also get a damn good sit down meal at a lot of places for under a hundred dollars too.

That's enough for 4 people, and I say that as a glutton with Sushi

Oh GOD, you're telling me! I know the prices of my favorite bottles at places we frequent around town, and on principle I won't drink them if they're a % higher than I know I can get elsewhere. It's wild how something like Turnbull can range from $70/bottle to $120/bottle in BR restaurants. (I have a nice spot I go to often enough that they give me the wholesale price which is less than the grocery store, but that one's a secret )
My wife is the general manager at a wine/liquor store. Believe me, I hear ya

We took home half of each roll. Both small people, though. This is a pretty standard order for us.
I remove the rice from most of my nigiri. I only like a light sprinkle of it.

Find a nice place that serves a nice amount and half it with the spouse. That would be reasonable, you experience the “eating out”, and you won’t be stuffed. Same with dessert.

I never go to seafood restaurants, because the food is always a step down from what’s at home. I eat fresh seafood all the time and in almost every variety.
Occasionally if I get a craving for some fried seafood I'll go out to eat because it's just a pitb to do it at home for me. But other that that I agree with you

Personally I just can’t help but get irked internally every time after we go to one of these places and the dinner is over and see the bill for $250-$300 for 2 people.

I love going out to eat, but the prices are insane these days. I agree with that.

Consider a chirashi bowl. Gives the chef the chance to be creative, and you can choose your own rice adventure.

I'll have to give that a try. I always see it and never order it.
We did a Michelin starred sushi place in Chicago a few weeks back, and the service was unbelievable. We had gone to a late night DnB concert the night before and were struggling to the point I was afraid I'd never be able to handle the meal. Surprisingly, I did, but also the very attentive staff said on like course 3, "We noticed you like your rice on the lighter side, so the chef will prepare every course going forward with 1/2 the rice".

They served you all of that at once?!

It wasn't Omakase, although a lot of this actually does come on their Omakase menu. We ordered it all together, though. This is our regular sushi spot.

Good omakase is one of my favorite “normal” culinary experiences.

I love to cook so the wife and I typically don't go out to eat in restaurants much, but even more so now with the cost of doing so being more and more prohibitive.
Hell, an appetizer, a couple cocktails and an entree even at local mom & pop restaurants is running close to $100 with the tip figured in now.
Hit up some of the finer restaurants around N.O. and it's $100 or more per person most of the time.
The wife came home with a local publication a few weeks ago that had restaurants offering 4-6 course tasting menus and they ranged from $125-$275 per person. All I know is I can buy great food and drink for us for no less than 2 weeks for $275, so that is what we choose to do.

I mean you almost can’t go anywhere these days above a half decent place if you order ann app(1) a 2-3 drinks(total), dinner(2) and a desert(1) for less than the above mentioned.
You can easily cut out $30-$50 by not ordering drinks at a restaurant. If you're paying $200+ for a split appetizer and dessert and 2 entrees, you're doing something wrong.

How obese are you? It’s disgusting to even look at. I don’t want to eat food while having a bunch of fat asses in my periphery. Its gross.

Where at? I’ve never seen that much plated at once. Even when we don’t order omakase, they still bring out pieces/rolls in stages
