Not if your thirsty and want to relax with your woman
But paying 7-8-9 bucks for a glass of ipa does piss me off

I’m in Houston and I rarely eclipse $150 a head unless I’m doing omikase or ordered more than 1 bottle of wine.

Used to love going out to dinner. Especially after work. Didn't have to worry about dishes, cleaning etc. Now I can't stand it. I hate getting dressed up, spending $200+ for one dinner and being around people. I guess I'm getting old.

No foodie. Just a typical woman with idiot friends.

To piggy back, I was in Houston last weekend. Had a lovely dinner at Caracol and then gorged myself the next day at Kenny & Ziggy’s. Neither cost me anywhere near $150 a head

I enjoy it from time to time, but we'd much rather cook. Its more enjoyable, cheaper, and probably healthier considering you can control the amount or butter and salt that goes into your meal.

$9 for a 10 oz pour of Ghost in the Machine put me in the "get off my lawn" category somewhat quickly when a 4-pack is $12.49 at Total Wine and I can drink it in my underwear.

Quality of the meat
I buy prime steaks pretty often, but I just don’t have commercial equipment to cook them at 1800 degrees.

Some places are even charging you pick up fees on to go orders. shite is getting out of hand. I love going out to eat, but we don't do it as often as we used to. The fact you are spending 250-300 on a regular basis is somewhat alarming for an average joe. I can easily spending 50-100 for two and get a great meal somewhere. It's the fact you have to have an app, have to have 2-3 drinks a piece, probably have to have the top of the line dish, and have to have dessert.
Maybe if you had any sort of self control, you wouldn't be spending as much.

Eh, about a 3x to 4x markup is pretty typical for alcohol and always has been.
I remember a typical domestic beer being about 3 dollars when I used to go 20 years ago out and a 6 pack was usually around 6 dollars then. Shits just got expensive overall.

Where I'm from you get an app, four drinks total, and an entre for about $100.
$10
$50
$20
$20
plus $25 tip, so $125
For a "nice" place
$15
$60
$30
$30
$135 + tip
There's no need to eat dessert, but sometimes we get dessert and cocktails at another place for about $30

Just curious how everyone else feels about this situation or similar.
We never did much dining out, when we did it was usually just to try out a new or new-to-us venue that seemed interesting. Much rather cook at home anyways. Our work schedules are even worse now, dining out is pretty much out of the question so even though I did a majority of the cooking anyway I really do most of it now with a slow cooker or Instant Pot.

He actually said 2-3 drinks total, which is why I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this entire hypothetical.

As we’ve gotten older it’s very rare to go out to eat unless we’re on vacation or otherwise out of town. We never get appetizers, drinks or dessert.
I’d go out way less too if I never got drinks, apps, dessert. What’s the point?
Posted on 6/6/24 at 3:26 pm to Joshjrn
Eh. I wouldn't say we hit $300 before tax all that often, but not hard to hit 200-250. We did it just last night with only this (pictured below), one app not pictured, 1 glass of house wine, and a cocktail.

The frick? Where y’all going to eat that costs that much?
I’ve gone to many higher end restaurants with my wife and almost never spend 200 dollars much less 300.
Last time I spent that was at Does in Greenville but the portions ain’t small and steak is amazing

Has likely just never gone anywhere more expensive than a chain steak restaurant or a local seafood restaurant.
