Once they figure out you want something they refuse to let you have it.

Hell, I asked for a layoff a couple weeks ago. Got a clean RIF.

Fat bank account and a grand a week in unemployment in hand.

Toughest decision I have every day now is which motorcycle I want to ride.

I'll take a call come spring time.

You ain't from Louisiana.

For the first time in my career I got laid off this summer. I was stressed out about it and pissed off as the date approached.
Ended up with 6 months severance and started a new job the following week. Worked out very well.

Been a Louisiana resident all my 53 years.

But I wasn't working in Louisiana.

I work for a good lick, then come home for a bit

Haven't decided where I'm retire yet, but it won't be in here. I'll sell my place outside Clinton and go somewhere else (where it's not so damn hot and humid) when that time comes in a few years. Just stacking as much away now as I can for when that time comes. Hell, the place I was just working, I was putting $1198 a week into my annuity for most of the year. I go where the scales and retirement are the highest I can find.

That last job was coming to an end. They'd already had one lay off, and my lease was up at the end of this month. Time to go home before it started snowing lol .

There's going to be a ton of work in the spring.

If you’re the contractor. I’m hiring in to work for one. I worked for FedEx back in 05-06 when I was 25. This time around the pay is better. Starting pay $725 a week but you can bump up and there’s performance/safety bonuses. It’s easy for me. I’m built for traveling and a real geography buff.

They opened a brand new 75,000 sq ft Amazon facility here and those jobs went fast.

Unless you pissed off the wrong person or stayed so under the radar that no one knew who the frick you are, you were considered unimportant to the job at hand. Sucks, but that's why you've got to make your mark on a business. Outside of voluntary layoffs, In my 30+ years of working, I could count on two hands the number of truly hardworking people who lost their jobs in a RIF.

Also, if they offered you other positions with the same pay, you didn't get laid off. You quit. Thus, the no severance.

I got laid off in July. These last 3 months with no responsibilities has been awesome. I may not even go back to work until the lawsuit is finished.

Working is some bull shite.

At 3:51 you start a thread saying you were laid off.

At 3:57 you post that you already have a new job.

I’m pretty sure you did land your new job in that 6 minute window, so you already had the new job when you started this pointless attention seeking thread. Good grief.

Got laid off from my engineering job after 13 years back in the mid 90's. I was absolutely destroyed. I had put some serious time and effort into that place and loved that job. Company relocated so we got notified that we had about 5 months left. I was the last guy to leave. Basically sold all the equipment and locked the door behind me. Stung like hell

Never went back to engineering and it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me

It may look grim now but hang in there. Thing may get better.
