re: Who came up with the idea of men going to baby showers?

I don't go to any sort of shower and I don't want to hang out with other men that would be at that sort of thing.
I laughed at the two husbands that got drug along to my wife's baby shower thinking I'd be there. I was fishing.

Whoever it was ought to be shot between the eyes. My wife did not want me near either of hers thank the Christ but my Niece, who we raised after my sister passed, insisted that the men in the family be there. It was about the silliest shite I ever witnessed. It sure as hell wasn't during football season 'cause who has a baby during football season???? If I had someone in the family with a birthday between September 1 and the end of November They'd just have to celebrate it at some other time IF they expected me to be involved. Knew a family that had a wedding on a football Saturday...they're still pissed at almost everyone they know because we did not show up, the idiots. Who plans a wedding on a football Saturday????

The child has not been born yet. A baby shower is about celebrating a woman's transition to motherhood.

I've been dragged to a couples shower before. The same folks had a shower just for the women, a diaper party for just the dudes, and then a couples shower. It's all just excuses to end up with more gifts.
I was invited to take a shower with another couple at a campground in Vinton, LA years ago...I graciously declined. I ain't sure none of us was meant to emerge clean....

I bet the shower looked like where Covid started

I'm so happy I'm older and went through this period of life before it was a thing. Gender reveals, baby showers, couples wedding showers... It was just starting, it seems, when I was getting married in early 2000's.

Remember, most women want you to be miserable with them. So women came up with this idea.

I went to a baby shower for couples. They had an open bar and lots of food. It was a good time

Sometimes you gotta sacrifice for the greater good

We had a couples shower a couple weeks ago. Don't see the big deal. Was pretty much just a big family get together. Worth noting that this was our only baby party. Didn't have an announcement party, gender reveal, diaper party (when did this become a thing), or any of that nonsense. Had food and drinks (real food not just the tiny snack plates that are typical baby shower fare).
If I'm invited and close to the people throwing it, I'll go. If my name isn't on the invite or I'm not close to the people throwing it. Hard pass. Also a hard pass on anything for a second child.

If the scenario is brought up, it most likely for one of our friends in the circle. So all the guys go and just sit outside, watch the game, have some drinks. Once all the extra people leave, then you're with the normal friend group and you cook a sauce and drink more. Some of y'all act like the biggest hard asses for no reason.
So that ain't men going to a baby shower...that's men taking their women folk to a baby shower and sitting outside until its over. Totally different scenario. If you're going to a baby shower you will be in side with the other women, not outside drinking with your buddies. I ain't ever done that either because my wife can drive and has a car of her own but I can see how it would be tolerable depending on who was there.

I can’t imagine asking men to go to one of those.
I have never been asked one time by my wife, or any girlfriends prior to her to attend a baby shower. Not once. Nor do I think they would remotely ever consider asking me...or that I would say yes if asked.
Evidently somewhere along the line men started willingly going to these things which led women to believe men should attend. Apparently these pathetic men try to justify it by saying "It's really just an excuse to get together with the other husbands/boyfriends and drink".
1. What kind of trashtastic baby shower are you attending where drinking beer is involved?
2. MFer, I can get together with my friends to drink beer anytime. I don't need a baby shower to do that.
I don't blame women for asking. I blame the men for saying yes.

It was not what one might call sanitary...

So who are these people in the south planning these things on Saturdays in the fall??? What kind of tacky bullshite is that? We have get togethers at our house on Saturday's in the fall. They revolve around football games as God intended. They are basically tailgate parties with better bathroom facilities. The crowds are a mix of folks in their 20s through folks in the 80's. I can't imagine anyone of them even planning a funeral on a Saturday in the fall and I know if they did and it wasn't the week before the cocktail party not many of that crowd would show up..me included. Some of y'all aint got your priorities right...There are 52 weeks in a year. 12 Saturdays are for college football. If you don't know this in your DNA you probably ain't from the south or you and yours ain't been in the south long...

I'm pretty sure alcohol consumption is a part of most of these events.
Alcohol was probably involved in the conception, why not the shower???

Might just be a south LA thing, although that poster claims to be an LSU fan.

They cannot compete physically so they are trying to soften up the lot.
