I've always enjoyed studying Tsar Nicholas II. The Romanovs and their fall have always interested me.

Queen Elizabeth I. A very strong, intelligent, intellectual woman during whose long reign much was accomplished and who healed some of the religious wounds caused by her father and sister.

GREAT thread, btw!

Unfortunately and tragically for Russia, he was one of the weakest monarchs ever who absolutely did not want to reign. And whose emotionally unstable wife fell under Rasputin's control while trying to cope with their only son's hemophilia. Tragic history that altered the course of the world!

Why, other than because she was the last Hawaiian monarch?

Indeed. But he himself, as a man and as a monarch, was a very weak character who was shockingly out of touch with what was really happening in his country.
