Desalvo in the New Orleans area used to be good but I think he’s lost a bunch of his connections throughout the years. Or was it just good ole LA politics that made him good? Hmmm...

Someone ask Gordon when the last time he tried/worked a case personally. I’ll venture a guess, probably close to 20 years.

I'll let you know when I get home. Have two magnets of some dude on the fridge. The magnets were stuck to the Yellow Pages when they delivered them. Two different years. Same picture. The most recent one was flipped like a mirror image.

He ain't foolin' me.

Lawyers use Best Lawyers www.bestlawyers.com ranking to find the best trial lawyers out of state. Needless to say, you won’t see the advertisers on the list.

Baton Rouge Busiess Report just ran the Best Lawyers list this issue.

lol no

the best in court attorney i've ever personally seen is Richard Sarver out of Nola. he had this soft, melodic presentation that the jury ate up

That is actually not true. There are firms that specialize in kicking arse at trial. Paul Due and his crew were a force no defense firm wanted to play with in 90s, Ed Walters was very good too. New Orleans is its own little world. Most of the presidents of LTLA are or were bad asses, then there are the regional lawyers. They own their neck of the woods and will Kick your teeth in on their turf. Micheal St Martin in Some of the parishes, JB Jones used to control Cameron Parish etc.

It changes all the time as people get older etc. so there is really no such thing to be honest. I have seen even “nationally renowned lawyers” frick up big time. As we age we are probably all overrated, so by the time you hear about how great a lawyer is, he is probably past his prime, and most of use have cases where we are great and cases where we suck, (although we will not admit it)

The inner circle (100 people) is probably best indicator but I am not sure if anyone from Louisiana is in it now, although I think Russ Herman was at one time, but I would not piss on him if he was on fire.

I prefer Dudley DeBosier. They’re the official injury lawyers of the LSU Fightin Tigers.

Tom Hayes in Monroe. Harry Simmons in Shreveport before he retired.

There are lots of small town lawyers who can win a case in the voire dire by knowing who they want on the jury. Billy Joe's meemaw and the plaintiff's aunt were sisters, leaving the out of town lawyer and his jury consultant scratching their heads at why Billy Joe, who otherwise fit the profile, didn't find their argument persuasive.

That story is indicative of why I don’t think there’s such a thing as a fair trial. People are susceptible to pretty things, including language. A good trial lawyer doesn’t need to know the law as much as he needs to know his audience.
