Again, it's not about what i can/can't afford. I could afford to pay $5/gallon for gas, but I would seriously consider taking the train in to work because it would be $80 a month instead of $300-400 a month.
and that is a perfectly good reason to do so. I completely agree with that logic. That is very simple economics.
See, this is where the different personal situations I was talking about come into play.
But just because you do it, doesnt mean you are right and someone else is wrong.

I know all of that
I was asking which individual posters on Tigerdroppings actually care?
Not some jimmy Johns sandwich maker down the road.

Dude, I make six figs having scripts do most of the work while I build shite in my lab. I can survive 5 dollars per gallon just fine, but the worker in the restaurant downstairs might be hurting a bit.
On top of that, just because you can afford it doesn't mean it won't alter your behavior. Anyone with a brain would do things to minimize fuel used when the price doubles, no matter how much that make.

And then you changed the argument to matter what the price it wouldn't matter. To paraphrase you, I phone's would still be sold, people wouldn't cancel vacations, etc, etc. That's is patently incorrect. Admit that's an idiotic take and conversation over.
At best your moving the goalposts to look like less of an idiot, at worst you have less intellect than an 8 year old.

You sound like a kid, one day you'll get to adulthood and understand that yes, you should watch the news because something going on across the world could effect you and your family. Yes you should watch the price of gas because it can and has effected the rest of the economy, yes you should have a budget and notice and recalculate when the cost of something that you must have changes.
Or you can just go through life thinking, I need it so it doesnt matter what it costs, and you'll always be a step or 2 behind the next guy who calculates his budget and pays attention to indicators in the world.

I would not. I will still go to work, appointments, out to eat, drop the kids off at school, just as I do now.
I’m already paying .40 more a gallon than most people by driving a diesel. I don’t bitch. It’s my choice to drive it.

Congrats on being a moron
When gas isn't $100 a barrel you'll care since youre too stupid to realize you work in a commodity market.

Listen Fredo, we all know you’re too dumb to run anything, so your father, father in law, or brother just give you something to do. Just remember this with them: never go against the family.

I don't think anyone is saying they will stop doing any activities that will allow them to make money or extend education/life. That's ridiculous.
What the average American will do is stop buying extra clothes, shoes, and any other commodity classified as a want.
What you also don't realize is that while you may have more money than 90% of America, your bottom line goes up and purchasing power goes down. But I feel that's a little to above your pay grade to understand.

He's made that fairly obvious.

As far as consumer habits go with the iPhone
Number of IPhones sold per quarter 07-onward
Crude Oil Hit $160/bbl in June of 2008
Looks like people were buying iPhones at record rates to me during that time and past the stock market crash in Oct

The market for cell phones, particularly the iPhone, is not even close to being the same as it was a decade ago. No surprise you don't understand that.

You are forgetting that phones were still subsidized at the time and didn't come fully off of it until last year.
The actual cost was anywhere from 200-400 dollars. Which in a job market, a phone is a requirement if not furnished for you.

You’re talking about necessities, which I’m sure you don’t know the definition. In this modern age, you need a smart phone and oil to survive in modern society. Come back to me if gas goes up to 4 or 5 bucks and see if people’s spending habits have changed.

No one said it didn’t.. I just choose to weather the storm in a different way than you. I live my life knowing everything goes up and down. I’m prepared for when times are “tough”
“Tough” being relative to other people’s situations in other countries
Posted on 5/13/18 at 5:07 pm to geauxcats10
You're right, a brand new product that revolutionized the world, sold right through an oil spike. Case closed, no reason to pay attention to the price of gas now.
Posted on 5/13/18 at 5:08 pm to geauxcats10
When time are tough, the people that prepared and were on top of things are in a way better spot than the families who didnt look at the price of gas because "you need it amirite"

I try to be proactive and not reactive. Especially with money.
Edit: Could have at least used a Thanos meme.
