but why tho
Why the Washington monument, the Lincoln Memorial? I don’t know why, but I’m glad they were built. I like this one too. It’s tasteful yet grand.

I have no idea what “pathetically derivative” even means in the context of architecture.
You realize that the entire architecture of the Capital City development by L’enfant is based on Greco-Roman design? Why would you build a monument that wasn’t consistent with the architecture of the City?
The Arc de Triomph took a design language and evolved upon it to make it interesting and identifiable. This proposed arch seems to do the bare minimum to follow the design language without doing anything interesting, at all. If anyone other than Trump was proposing this, everyone would be mocking it as the Temu Arc de Triomph.

Have you actually been to Arlington National Cemetery? It fits perfectly against that backdrop.

Get ready for more Hitler comparisons.

I have... twice? I believe. Though it's admittedly been about a decade.

Yes and no
There wasn't only one built but many and many to draw inspiration from.

Just checking in. Yep, the libs are still crying.

judging from Trump's way of doing things, it probably won't be by increasing the debt.

That's going to happen anyway. Who cares?

This entire thing is ridiculous. Just lower taxes, get rid of red tape, and continue pushing back on stupid shite. Things like this are embarrassing, and will reflect in the midterms.

The Arch of Titus is the most direct inspiration, but of course there were plenty others the AdT could have drawn inspiration from. I don't think we're disagreeing as much as we're emphasizing different things

The difference bwtween inspiration and pathetically derivative seems unrelated to architectural theory. How would you describe the difference?

I believe I've explained this twice, if not three times. If you want to argue with my position, feel free, but I'm disinclined to repeat myself again

Wouldn't spend 6 pages posting novels about it.
We all know why you choose to think it's "derivative" and whatever other pretty words you use to mask your feelings. You're about as transparent as saran wrap

I post, people ask me questions, I reply to them. Somehow, this is a problem on a message board

He has to do dumb shite like this now while he’s in office. History is not going to be kind to him and once he’s gone, whoever is in office is going to distance themselves from him as far as they can. Trump is basically being used by all the people in his inner circle to greater their power. They know his mind is weak, so they are taking advantage of it while they can. Give him a new shiny toy every few weeks and make sure his TV is on Fox News. That’s all it takes to make him happy. Oh and make sure to tell him his hair looks nice.

It would have taken you less time and effoet to c/p your relevant reply, but thank you for that very satisfying response anyway.

Sometimes I read PT and start to get convinced that everyone still thinks Trump is the savior. Then I come on here when there’s a Trump topic and breathe a sigh of relief that most people do understand he’s a clown and his admin has become a shitshow.

Hey, if the arse bleeding weren’t taking up so much of your time, you could have just read the rest of the thread before posting
