re: Which would be a cooler conversation piece if you killed it? The lion, rhino, or hippo?

Anybody who kills any of those three animals should be strung up and hung by their nutsack. And I'm an avid hunter. But hunting any of those three animals is just ridiculous.
I'm sure there is a conservation and beneficial point for hunting some of these animals at times, but that's got nothing to with the goal of a dude from LC spending a fortune to hunt and mount on his wall.
The leap some people are taking to justify all killing of these animals is incredible.

quote:Meat isn't being wasted and is feeding people who need it. Its a strictly regulated hunt so as not to negatively impact animal populations. The money goes back into funding work to protect habitats and maintain stable populations long term. Where's the negative? You just hate hunting.
So they are paying big bucks for the thrill of providing the villages with “much needed”.. food and putting the old poor hurting animal out of its misery.. lol
Whether we're talking about Africa or the US, the majority of funding for wildlife work and habitat conservation comes from hunters, not from tree huggers. In Africa, its from rich westerners shelling out huge amounts for big game hunts. In the US, its from hunting license sales and federal excise taxes charged on guns, ammo, and archery equipment that goes directly back into wildlife and conservation work (see Pittman-Robertson Act).

think I saw an old video of a guy mounting a chicken…
I definitely have.
Buddy had a video back in 90s of chickens, dogs, pigs and sheep getting rammed

why don't we hunt dogs and cats?
They do in Australia. Want to take a guess why?
No issue with this. If a random dude from LC is traveling there to do so and then have them mounted on his walls back home, that'd be just as messed up as the subject of the OP.

Mounted a few hippos in my day. I’d go for the lion.

Hunting is a form of invasive and overabundant animal control. It is mutually beneficial even if some of the hunting is purely for sport.
On a state level, control by the LDWF has helped the Louisiana black bear population to flourish so much that the state allowed a 16-day season with limited tags to keep them from becoming invasive. Without allowing a season they become a problem but without regulation, they may get hunted to near extinction again.
I am an avid hunter and gun owner, but I only kill what I will eat. While I know these statements about the benefits you mention that come from sport hunting and certain wildlife management practices are accurate, it is just a rationalization used while omitting the whole story. The reason this has become necesssary is so conveniently glossed over, that is the fact these animals have become invasive or overabundant is due to the human-wildlife conflict for resources that we created. Human destruction and obliteration of the natural habitats and ecosystems for these animals has been done worldwide to the point where smaller numbers are necessary for their survival. And the primary reasoning for this is the materialistic greed of our own species, at the expense of all others, so that we can have our shopping centers, car lots, extravagant homes, casinos, amusement parks, movie theaters, etc. And in the impoverished nations where much of this big game sport hunting is done, and these types of luxuries barely exist, we have simply robbed these habitiats of their natural resources such as timber, minerals, and fuels so that those luxuries can be built. So basically the point here is that just because something is factually true...it doesn't mean it can't also be a complete load of bullshite!! Not a damn thing "cool" about any of that in my book.

I built a trophy room in my last house and won’t shoot a buck unless I’m putting it on my wall. Shoot does if I need meat.
I get 5 tags in Texas and rarely use more than 1 or 2.

Right, you're not wasting the meat and not hunting just to kill. This is respectable/honorable hunting.

Not meters
Just quoting what the man said. He said meters, so I said meters.

You did specifically mention your uncle 3 times in one sentence, perhaps he’s your Aggie guncle? (Redundant)
I'll admit it does read awkwardly. I didn't proofread well enough.
