That's because there's no right answer
Basically, the entire tech world pronounced it with a hard g (grape). Then sometime later, the guy who invented the standard said that he always said it with a soft g (he phrased it as like JIF peanut butter) in his head.
So if you believe the creator has the right to name it, full stop, it's a soft g. If you believe that once the creation is out in the wild, the world gets to name it, it's a hard g.
ETA: I pronounce it with a hard g and will absolutely make fun of anyone who pronounces it with a soft g, creator's wishes be damned
