I've never had a problem at the Burbank Walmart. I actually thought it was a nicer shopping experience than going to the College Walmart. Guess I'm in the minority on that though.
The best Walmart in town is the neighborhood market at Highland and Lee.
To the OP, I've actually ridden my bike down some of the streets in Valley Park (my parents live near Webb Park). While that area has had issues, I've never felt unsafe during the day doing that. A lot of people keep up their yards and houses from what I have seen.
My parents have lived in their house for 30+ years. The only issue we ever had were a few bikes being stolen when I was 8 years old or so.
I wouldn't dare drive off of GSRI around those fourplexes on the west side of Gardere.

I would disagree. I went to one for 10 years and have been going to Burbank for 2. Burbank is much better imo

I've never seen cops outside the Burbank Walmart, but there is always a Sheriff sitting in his car at the food entrance at the College Dr. Walmart.
More parking lot beggars bug me at the College Dr. Walmart, probably due to all the homeless people living near the bridge over the creek and I-10.

Gardere by far. Valley Park isn't really dangerous at all. We had friends from Lee High who we played ball with and they would invite us to their grandmother's house for BBQing and night dominoes games.
ETA: near the college drive entrance to Valley Park neighborhood, there was an old house turned into a neighborhood blues bar. At 16 we would go there and they would serve us at the bar counter. 4 white kids and never had any problems.

Does anyone really feel unsafe at the Burbank Walmart? What time of day are you going? I shop there regularly with my wife and 2 year old and have never had any problems or felt unsafe.

The Burbank Walmart has never felt remotely gross or dangerous to me. Not grosser than any other Walmart, I mean. A lot of Hispanic families in there, but they don’t set off alarms for me.
I can’t go to the one on College without shady fricks approaching me in the parking lot. I hate, hate that store.

Went at 11:00 yesterday morning and couldn't believe how crowded it was. It's not the best crowd in the world but I've never felt unsafe there and never been hassled by a beggar unless you count the boy scouts.

These folks bitching about Baton Rouge Walmart’s need some perspective. I had to go pick something up for a family member at the WalMart out in New Orleans east by Chef Menteur Highway. You want a cultural experience? Go there. I grew up around the city and that place put me on edge.
