so his birthday was last week. i got him a bracelet with his name engraved on it, nothing crazy, just something personal and thoughtful.

when he opened it he just... froze. then started crying. like actually crying. i've never seen him cry before.

after he calmed down he told me that nobody has ever gotten him a gift that actually meant something. like ever. not his parents, not his ex, nobody.

i knew he had a tough childhood but i didn't realize how deep that went until that moment.

still thinking about his face when he opened it. It was too cute.

Whoa.

Everything hits everyone different.

I will admit that when I got my first child a bike, I put it in the trunk and just started getting teary eyed.

It was to be from Santa and I think it would be the first time she would acknowledge Santa by four years old.

Anyway, I thought it was cool and the fact that she learned tk ride a bike at 4.

She came down stairs Christmas morning and I was fine. But buying the bike was a fatherhood first moment that I knew I was supposed to do. She learned to ride it in thirty minutes because a neighbor let us use a glider bike. Those are key for Teaching a kid tk ride a bike.

Every other kid that I bought a bike for, I didn’t get emotional. But the first was lacrimonious.

It might have to do with the fact that I didn’t get a new bike till I was about 8 or nine. I was the youngest and got the hand me downs.

Should I go see a professional? .

A woman using her man's vulnerability for social media clout.

Checks out.

I teared up (nobody around me) when my son won his cub scout pinewood Derby.

My dad had a temper and he got frustrated the night before the race trying to get something just right on the car and lost his shite and started beating the frick out if it with a hammer.

I had blocked that memory out of my head for 40 years and seeing my son's face after he won all that came flooding back and I had to excuse myself outside for a few minutes to pull it together.

You never know what's going to trigger something like that.

No problem with a grown arse man tearing up over sentiment. It happens. However,

over anything other than a big loss?

I give it two years before she moves on.

She'll be able to look back and realize this was the exact moment their relationship started going downhill.

Giving your young child a gift =/= getting a god damn bracelet from your girlfriend and bawling your eyes out

Per the rest of your story, I would question people who wouldn't get emotional at this. Great moment and great closure.
