Carnival Valor retraced its route to support the search and rescue," Lupoli said, and the ship has since been released by the Coast Guard and is again sailing toward Cozumel, Mexico. The Carnival Valor had left port in New Orleans on Wednesday.

Receiving a call from the cruise ship at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the Coast Guard launched a multi-crew search effort by air and sea, Coast Guard Lt. Phillip VanderWeit said in a statement.

After the man was spotted by a crew on another vessel, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew "hoisted the man onto the helicopter," VanderWeit said.

At around 2 p.m., the boat turned around to head back, Anderson said. Passengers were told their arrival time to their port of call, Cozumel, would be delayed, he said. Later Thursday evening, an announcement over the PA system informed guests that there had been a man overboard incident, but the ship had been released from the search and was resuming travel to Cozumel.

15 hours without any flotation aid?
Superiorly impressive.

So the dude wasnt reported missing for half a day and was in the water for 15+ hours and was rescued by a helicopter that was covering a 200mile radius.

That dude needs to buy some lotto tickets when he gets back to the states. Thats near impossible luck.

Then, amid the vast search zone, a crew on another vessel spotted something, VanderWeit said.

It was the man.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew out of New Orleans headed to the spot -- and "hoisted the man onto the helicopter," VanderWeit said.

And he was responsive, USCG Petty Officer Ryan Graves said.

Rescuers haven't been able to determine how long he was in the water, Gross told "CNN This Morning" -- but it could have been more than 15 hours.

If it was that long, it's "the absolute longest that I've heard about -- and just one of those Thanksgiving miracles," he said.

If you manage to fall overboard on a cruise ship you have asked for your fate. Let the party continue.

Happens every year locally, they don't find anyone alive as the water is too cold.

The new Jayhawks at New Orleans have been paying off. Ridiculous that they only had dolphins for as long as they did
