EI at DOTD is around 40k

Did they drop it down? The last set of new hires I knew anyone in was 2012, and entry level EI 1 was $46k and change.

Eng 3(PE) is around 52k

I made more than that as an EI 2, but I did get a special rate because of my 2 years of co-op experience with DOTD.

Why would a licensed engineer take $52k a year?

That's just what they make immediately getting the PE. It's a non compete line of succession till Eng 5 which is around 65-70k.

Yeah, my bad. Forgot the rates lol been awhile.

I'll just look them up.

Ei is 46k
Ei 2 would be 49k
Eng 3 would be 54k
Eng 4 would be 60k
Eng 5 is 64k
Eng 6 is 71k

Anything above 6 is hard to get as those are Section heads and above. Those aren't including any 4% raises for merits/cost of living

You'll figure it out soon enough.

which ones?

BS Eveg, BSCE, MSCE, Phd CE.

I've taught courses in ME, CE, and Eveg. A couple of the advanced CE materials courses (7000 level) are the hardest in the university. Often a combination of CE and ME phd students.

Also, becoming a "teacher" Professor is not easy. A lot don't get tenure. And you have to change universities if you fail and try again at another university.

I'm not talking about getting a PhD and becoming a math professor.

All of the state certification exams can be passed relatively easy with no studying.
Honestly, unless you're absolutely afraid of talking with other people, there is NO reason why you should go engineering instead of teaching.
The unions will ensure that teacher salaries never follows free market wages. They'll also ensure that salaries are many times higher than engineers. They'll also ensure a 70% max salary pension plan.

The co-op program is really good. What section did you intern with?

I did 2 years of interning with DOTD so hopefully they start me as an EI2. Makes those 4% raises just slightly higher and it makes me happy.

I started at ALF in Port Allen, then moved to HQ after a couple semesters of that. I honestly don't remember the section number, 21 I think.

You should go teach a class. You'd be clearing $140k on the top line.

They won't. You will get credit for leave accrual though. Also, unless you got the co-op experience put on your transcript, which LTRC/DOTD don't seem to want to do, it won't count towards the 4 years to become a PE.

If/when you get a job offer, get your hiring manager to ask for a special entrance rate based on your experience with the agency. When I hired on, my boss had to jump through a couple hoops to get it, but he did. No one else that co-op'ed got it.

Or if you don't enjoy a classroom setting you can become a police officer.
Hell, my dad's friend is a police officer who retired with a $210,000/year pension fund.

I know a tutor down here that is making $50k/yr just tutoring. He's also a HS teacher during the day and working on his PhD in physics. I still haven't figured out why he won't just get a regular engineering job. Dude double majored in EE/ME, has his master's in math and physics, and is now getting a PhD in physics. He could make some serious cash, but I guess he likes the freedom he has now or something

They just told me about the co-op deal at UNO earlier this semester. To bad I got let go (and didn't really try to get it back) right before they told me
