Sure, they are selling their origin story for a more wholesome image, but if you don't think that is calculated, you are sadly mistaken.

All that matters is that they have a good chicken sandwich, the rest is just window dressing.

Of course. But a lot of motivations/decisions are not profit-based, and quite frequently are entered knowing that there will not be a financial benefit. There are several that occurred, largely without any press, during this COVID-19 saga.

Some of those have PR considerations, some do not. They are shrewd, they are not entirely guided by virtuous motivations, but they are not at all akin to most competitors.
