I'd probably go with Memphis, Baltimore, Detroit, Oakland in that order.
Assuming I'm making a comparable salary to now with regards to cost of living there are plenty of livable areas in those cities.
Plus my kid won't be in school for a few more years so I'm not worried about that angle.

This is the best option no doubt. You can live in the nice parts of Memphis and be completely oblivious to the intersecting slums.

Has some really bad hoods, like the others, and is expensive as hell. It does have some nice areas though if you don't mind paying like hell for housing. B

detroit is a fine city, but weather sucks.
Memphis' good parts are small
Frick ever living in California, especially Oakland.
Never been to Baltimore, but my buddy who moved to NYC recently loves it there.

I would do Memphis since I grew up there and my family is still there.
It's a shithole in general but has its nice parts.
Oakland would be a close second.
frickkkkk living in Detroit or Baltimore.

Of those listed, I could do time in Memphis for one year.
NBA Basketball, minor league baseball, college sports, rural Arkansas not too far, nice golf courses in the area, Beale Street.
Again, just a year...
