In a Louisiana history class at Nicholls St. After class, I was walking to the student union to meet my friends like I always did on Tuesday/Thursday and I ran into one of my fraternity brothers who told me that a plane hit the World Trade Center in NYC. I assumed he was talking about a small Cessna or something like that....and that it was an accident Once I got inside and saw the tower smoking I was pretty shocked that a small plane could cause that. Then, on live TV, the 2nd plane hit and we all realized it was a jetliner and that this was no accident. They showed a few people falling alongside the building, not realizing what it was at first. I'll remember that image the rest of my life. Needless to say, I didn't make any classes the rest of that day.

That evening, I had to go to work. The store was completely dead. Workers were just walking around talking with one another as well as the few customers that were in the store. Everyone looked beaten down. I remember walking to the front and looking out at the gas station in the parking lot....lines at every pump. There was nothing normal about that day, and you had a feeling that everything was going to change. It's one of those days that gets etched into your memory. My parents had always talked about how they vividly remember where they were when Kennedy was assassinated. This was our Kennedy assassination.

On the west coast, freshman in college. Buddy called me when I was still in bed, told me to turn on the tv right now.

Skipped class that day and was glued to the tv for about 36 hours straight.

I was in the Army stationed in Germany. Driving down B9 headed to get clearing papers so I could move back stateside. I heard about the first plane on AFN radio. I was cleaning my TA-50 and watching TV at home when the second plane hit. I flew back to the states on Sept 21st.

My wife called to tell me about the first plane while I was driving to the Louisiana sheriff's Assoc. I walked in to the LSA conf room and turned on their TV in time to see the second plane hit tower two. They didn't know yet and wasnt quite sure why this guy just walked in and was turning on their TV.

I had the same thought when I heard. A few of us went down on the boat and turned on the TV. We were watching when the 2nd plane hit. My CO had walked in at some point and I remember him calmly saying "If any of you guys don't have duty today I recommend you leave base now before they lock us down".

They got all the subs that were seaworthy headed out to sea. We were stuck in drydock so we weren't going anywhere.

A lot of things changed that day in regards to security procedures.

I was supposed to go to Belo Horizonte through Rio on Monday night, the 10th, which would have put me in Rio about the time the first plane hit, and that's where I would have been stuck for a week or so, instead I was reassigned to go to Philadelphia through San Juan earlier on Monday,we landed in Philly early enough to get to the King George's pub for MNF, we had a great time and had a little after party in my room as we were not supposed to leave until Wednesday, right after the first plane hit a couple of co-workers were banging on my door, I let them in and they were pretty shaken up, "they're flying planes into buildings in NYC!" we turned on the TV just in time to see UAL hit the second tower, about that time my phone starts blowing up, a friend of mine that works for the same company calls and asks where are you? I told him, he says can you rent a bus, van, or cars and get you and your people out of there? by this time the entire crew was in my room(pretty high up on an east facing room of the Center City Wyndham,)I'm looking outside(beautiful morning,) and a two ship of F-16s on a CAP are flying straight at us and over flew the city, we were there till Saturday, pretty wild week, once the locals at the pub saw us in there a couple of days in a row and one of the girls let it slip about who we were, our company, etc., we were celebrities for the week, couldn't pay for anything, all of the women wanted to console us, pretty surreal there for a few days

I was at work. Secretary game into office and said, " a plane just hit one of the twin towers".

Thought it was just an accident. We turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit

I immediately went to my parents house and watched everything on TV with my dad for the rest of the day.

It's something I will never forget. We sat there in silence watching TV for the next 6-7 hours in complete shock.

A few days/week later we were in Mexico dove hunting when George Bush gave his presidential speech.

Job interview in DC visiting friend on long weekend. Was still in college. Unreal day. Was waiting for interview in coffee shop on Capitol Hill when everything happened. Met up with friend and hung with his office all day. Stayed all week since I couldn't get back

I was in Destin, we had a company vacation/meeting at Seascape. Drove from the condo to the conference center for our 9 am meeting, walked in to the room and everyone was glued to the tv. A few minutes later the 2nd plane hit.

Meetings were cancelled, we all didn't move for hours just watching the tragedy unfold.

Eventually a handful of us walked over to the Whale's Tail and sat on the beach drinking, watching military planes flying overhead, and philosophizing about life.

The next morning we drove back to Nashville, stopping in Opp for breakfast. I still have the USA Today I picked up that morning, in the old days we used to save the newspapers after big events.

I was in clinic seeing patients. My entire staff and department stopped everything they were doing and stared at the TV in the lobby for 8 hours.

I continued to see patients all day - (had a 100% show rate that day)

Then I caught up on what happened after work.

I was in the 2nd grade, sitting in my math class in the early morning. My teacher got a phone call, then turned on the TV to see the news reports of the first plane hitting. She left on the TV...and my entire 2nd grade class was watching as the second plane hit.

I vividly remember my teacher scrambling to turn off the TV and then crying the rest of class. The rest of the day is mostly a blur and I didn't understand what was really going on. I just knew that this was a big deal, as all the adults around me were losing their minds.

At the time I had one older sister working in D.C. and one sister in New York City, so my mind was on them the entire day. Just two months prior to the attacks, I had flown into New York and D.C. to visit them for the summer. I remember seeing the towers out of my window as we waited for the plane to land, and I had actually been to the Pentagon on a tour with one of my sisters while visiting her in D.C.

Seeing buildings I had actually been to and seen in real life attacked like that...well it burned that day into my mind forever and is a huge part of the reason I feel a huge disconnect between myself and the rest of my generation when it comes to discussing and understanding the events of that day.
