Where were you when you got the tragic news that Dale had died?

18 years ago today we lost an American Icon. I remember watching the race/wreck/coverage afterward with my old man. This was a very sad day for racing and NASCAR fans everywhere.
Rest in Peace to the Intimidator.

Me and my family were watching the race at a friends house. As soon as we saw it happen we went straight to church and prayed he’s be okay

And at trailer parks all across America, the Confederate flag flew at half mast.

I remember being in the field in Germany, either Grafenwoer or Hohenfels, can't remember, but our 1SG who was hard as nails got the Stars and Stripes and looked like he was about to bawl. There was a lot of Copenhagen sharing that day.

I imagine a lot of his fans were at the trailer park rec center, or hanging out at the trailer park dumpster smoking cigs with teen girls.

In the stands at Daytona International Speedway. We were in turn one and could not see the entire scene unfolding in turn four. Left the track and had no idea it was a fatal accident.

I was watching the race with a friend in the Quarter. We left at the end and drove to Covington to meet some friends. Didn't know until we got to Covington that he had actually died.

Batting Cages. I still remember hearing breaking news on the radio station I listened to on the way home.
