I'd drive a used Tahoe with the police package.

It could be worse. A 1972 Pinto with a bashed in door is higher on the trashy scale in my opinion.

Most are making a good financial decision based on their personal situation.
I doubt their goal is to buy a used cop car from an auction.
Good on them for not burying themselves in debt
You sound like a prick
I would have being a douchebag like you higher on the scale than driving a used police unit

Well I had one. My dad bought one at an auction for $500 while his car was in a shop. Couple weeks later he gave it to me when he got his car back.
I was 17, fixed it up
( which was impossible to make a 1970 Ford Custom look decent )
But it was fast, raced a few times and sold it. Couldn't imagine bringing a girl on a date in it.

It also has about 300,000 miles on it

Still classier than any Altima

My late step-FIL bought a police interceptor Ford LTD back in the 90s. Looked like a normal black used sedan. My MIL hated it. But holy hell would that thing fly. I think he primarily bought it to play with. He kept it until he died a few years ago. She immediately sold it as soon as she could find a buyer.

I suppose it has something to do with WHO is driving the car.
Not as trashy as throwing out your used mattress on Hwy 74 though.

My buddy's mom passed away and left him her white Ford Crown Vic.
He tinted the windows super dark and put black wheels on it.
People on the interstate immediately get over when he gets behind them and he's never been pulled over for speeding.

Trashy is driving a 2022 mustang financed at 18% for 10 years and you just got fired from your concrete work for calling out on account of your sciatica.
There was a lovely woman on the news in Atlanta who got in trouble for driving her $40k+ muscle car with the trunk open and furniture hanging out that her 3 year old was holding in place. IE her toddler was almost hanging out of the open trunk.
Anywho, in an effort to lobby for public sympathy, she pointed out that she has to heavily rely on public donations just to get by.
That’s pretty close on the trashy scale.

A crown vic police interceptor with the poverty caps and crushed springed driver seat on its 3rd seat cover riding 2-3" lower than the passenger seat might be the most american male car to ever hit the highway.
While not the interceptor model, every pipe and valve salesman in Houston had a black crown victoria as a company car in the early 90's.

the marked patrol cars should be avoided at all costs and are the ultimate symbols of trashiness
but unmarked police cars used mainly for transportation to and from work, can be real bargains and owning one of those are not trashy at all. the only alterations they have is the under dash police radio they added to them
i had 2 of them, a captains car that was still like brand new i bought at book value, and a detectives car with a bad tranny that wasnt hard to fix. both vehicles were some of the best used cars i ever owned
