Yes when it was purely classist. Then white Americans enslaved them off a concept of white supremacy and subsequently disenfranchised them for hundreds of years, in a nation that professed that all men were equal.

Why wouldn't it looked worse for "more civilized" folks to be acting worse than the "heathens" they despise?

Because for some reason the revisionist history that is going on has America to be the world's core of racism and slavery.

It wasn't race based.

End of discussion. And I'm pretty sure those African kings were propping up a truly free and democratic society, the first of its own kind

No, you're right, it doesn't matter, I was just attempting to be funny

Why should anyone here give a shite what Columbus was doing in Hispaniola or the Bahamas?

What does that have to do with the US or any territory that became a state?

That's because we were one of the few countries that required a war to end it.

What race has not seen slavery? What race has never been disenfranchised? Why do blacks single themselves out as being the only race to witness slavery?

Its a horrible act.

However this:

quote:

in a nation that professed that all men were equal

WILL NEVER = 400 years of slavery

To say otherwise is completely ignorant and a lie

First time it was recorded was in 1619. A Dutch "Man of War" sold 20 Black people (didn't specify number of men, women, or children)

Bruh, why you so mad? Columbus took over Puerto Rico(US Territory) in 1493, and enslaved/killed off all the Taino. Does it really matter whether it was 400 or 250?

I'm ok with you saying 113 years of slavery FWIW..

1896 US ratified the 14th Amendment to 1783 when we became officially recognized by foreign powers.

That's a pretty loaded statement. Who knows when slavery would have otherwise been abolished, and the path was being walked for a long time prior to the war. It didn't "require" a war to end it. The war was because a faraway segment of the country was telling people how to live their lives.

Hmmmm, almost sounds like the premise of the Revolutionary War.

(And no, don't come back with a pithy comment about how they did have representation. That was only one of the catchy chants, not the underlying drive that made the situation feel distasteful to begin with)

In any case, NONE of that has ANYTHING to do with trying to center slavery on America.

I mean holy shite, you basically just said that under certain conditions, it's okay to ignore reality and perpetuate misleading statements to dogpile on a subject.....if they deserve it.

Oh, and here is a fact to rock your world: cling to the idea that we "needed a war to stop slavery," but also acknowledge that the main enslavers in recent history, have never stopped.

Africans are still enslaving each other TODAY, in similar situations as back then

But in your mind, Americans deserve a good part of the focus on slavery because a war ended it a CENTURY AND A HALF AGO.

That does not remove guilt from the whites in America. The blacks that sold each other into slavery is just as guilty as the white man in America. Who created the demand for this slave labor?

For the purpose of this thread... YES

Is that not the subject being discussed?

PR really? They didn't kill the Taino either.. Their mere presence killed them. They could have been best buds with every Taino person alive and the Taino would have met the same fate. That had nothing to do with how they were treated.

Taino are South American tribes. What does that have to do with African slavery anyways?

You said

quote:

, slavery of Africans by Europeans existed prior on the Canary Islands

So I was just clearing it up that although many of the residents from smaller outer island of the chain were enslaved, they weren't African. During that era almost any population, colony, (no matter ethnicity or race) etc that could not defend itself would be conquered and likely enslaved.

Color of their skin had nothing to do with it. There was an entire white slave trade where religious prisoners of the Church of England were sent over in droves. Not to mention the enslavement of natives of the new colonies. From someone who is Scotch-Irish and Native American, slavery used as an argument just ticks me off, because the enslavement of my ancestors is ignored. If what occurred post reconstruction, and during the lead up and carrying out of the Civil Rights movement is used, then I can be far more sympathetic. That was about skin color, slavery was not.

I don't know a single white man or woman who owned anyone...I sure as hell haven't. Why should I feel guilty about something that happened LONG before I was born?

White Guilt, White Apologists, White Privilege...all horse shite. It's time for people to quit making excuses for their lives being shite and fix their own god damn problems...
