Really? This is very very sad, as a kid in Denham Springs and prairieville/gonzales area they used to light up the back yard thousands and thousands really cool and used to catch tons of them, this is sad and alarming

My yard is full of them every night. I enjoy it.

I’m ok with people I don’t know dying from West Nile Virus if it means we could get lightning bugs back.
My elderly father had West Nile and Covid (not at the same time). He said West Nile had him in the throes of death. Worst sickness he ever had. His words.
And here's one of my favorite blues songs, from Louisiana Red.

They were always around when I was a kid, even when we lived in the city.
Pesticides and yard treatments are a likely culprit. But the nights don’t cool off as much now which may be a factor too. Cool evenings and mornings were once a thing, even in the south.

I saw several off my back patio this evening. I don’t live in town, so I see them all the time in the summer.

I got the play by play from the neighbors granddaughter last night on how many she was catching.

I guess we could find more dead kids or some random twat in an ugly dress to spend 50 pages talking about. Would that meet your approval?

I was recently in the middle part of the country and there were thousands of them. It's where I grew up and we went to sleep with a jar full of them by our beds.

We have them in our yard in Shreveport. I caught one in a jar the other night

My neighbors and I decided to stop spraying for mozzies 2 years ago when we noticed a decline. Now we just use Off on the kids. Fireflies have made a come back here in middle Tennessee.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I am okay sacrificing lightning bugs to murder mosquitoes. Don’t get me wrong, I miss them, but I fricking hate mosquitoes more.
