My wife and I have been throwing that question around a bit, lately.

We lived in Florida, and moved to Oregon. Oregon has been a fun adventure. We could retire in either of those places, or we might find another adventure. We just don't know yet.

If you were you, where would you retire, and why?

Chattanooga.

I don't want to leave the south, and my mom moved there about 18 months ago. I would like to be close since she's getting older.

My parents house in Asheville. When I am ready to retire they will be dead so it will work out well. Don't even have to change the monogram on the towels.

Probably California or Colorado. I actually have a house in my name in Louisiana but will probably just rent that out to earn extra money.

I plan on selling my small business in about 6 years (I'm 41) then for the next 5 years, my wife and I are going to travel around wherever we feel like going. She is a nurse and has taken travel assignments before. Take a 3 month travel assignment around and live out of a 5th wheel.

At some point, we will decide where we want to settle down for good.

If I had to choose today I'd choose Mt Lassen. Only 37 though so I have a lot of time to change my mind. Definitely somewhere in the mountains.

I always thought that I wanted to retire to some exotic location where you would typically only spend vacations....as I get older, I am feeling more of an instinct pulling me back to the town where I grew up.

Somewhere without a state income tax if possible.

ETA: Not necessarily a "where" answer, but I am pretty certain I'd like to take college classes wherever I retire, and I'd like to do that in a traditional classroom of it is still available in 2055.
