After Ida. We all booked it to my brother's house in Bay St Louis. Sister in laws brother brought his quadriplegic wife. My brothers house 1st floor starts on second floor, first floor is storage and chain walls for storm surge. Anyhow, after sis in laws brother got power back they were going back home and we had to carry the electric wheelchair down 2 big flights of stairs. Big toe and next toe got rolled over. Nails turned black and fell off. Still not 100 % back to normal.

I cut my thumb in half, right through my nail. Lost half of it but miraculously it grew back fine.
My uncle cut off the tip of his thumb and it grew back. Thumb grew back to original size. Looks the same as his other thumb. Weird but apparently true.

It is interesting so many of the stories are contemporaneously linked to a hurricane.
I have lost my right big toenail about every couple of years for the last 30. It comes from rock climbing in shoes that feel two sizes too small and lots of foot and toe jams crack climbing. No discernable trauma it just starts coming off a couple of days later. Then I have to monitor it for months as it grows back to prevent an ingrown toenail which is the only time I actually have any pain from the process.

Pikes Peak Marathon 2019. Lost the toenail off my big toe after hitting large rocks/boulders coming down from the top. The descent is much more difficult than going uphill . Wore regular running shoes instead of trail running shoes - will never make that mistake again.

Lost my left thumbnail on a lime scooter in Little Rock last year. Hammered and decided I didn’t want to walk back to the hotel. What a good idea.
Only other time I’ve lost a nail was much more wholesome. I was working at the Ike Expo center in West Monroe during high school and dropped a trailer tongue on my left foot. Big toe nail peaced out a little while later.
Ironically, my big toenail is still malformed, and my thumbnail I lost as a result of drunken shenanigans came back perfectly.

Dropped a giant heavy dresser in a box right on my big toe and the whole nail popped right off instantaneously. I saw stars. Shoe filled with blood.
The big toe nail grew back pretty normal until the very end and it caught a fungus right at the tip. Was pissed because it took forever to grow out and everything was going well. But it’s not too bad and I can clip most of the fungus away and it’s not noticeable.

Yep, the live oak tree I was splitting logs from had just been trimmed back to a broccoli stalk because Ida split it down the middle. Had it trimmed to remove weight to save it from falling all the way. So far it’s doing great. The crack has started to close and bark over again and my nail is doing well too

Smashed a fingernail in my front door closing it
Similar nail losing injury. Had hand in door frame when a draft slammed it shut on my middle finger. It fell off and grew back. Hurt like a mother.
