What did you do? Write a letter? Deliver the news in person? Suggest therapy?

Dad has always been an a-hole, but for some reason it took 30 years to come to grips with it and confront him. Parents divorced at young age, he was a reliable provider of money and insurance, but no guidance, patience or emotion. Always the victim, never wrong, never apologizes, isn’t considerate and always seems to be angry. Can’t get a word in edgewise so conversation isn’t possible, and couldn’t be bothered when anything family related interferes with his personal life.

I’m over it all.

Not worth it man. He’s not going to change no matter what you say to him.

He’s your dad, deal with it.

Is this what led you to blowing dudes in College Station?

My Father passed away a week ago today. Appreciate him while you have him.

Man I'm so glad I didn't grow up in a trailer.

Pretending like it’s ok, yes. But emotionally, not really.

Sit and talk with him. I bet you’ll be surprised at his reaction.

People have a hard time seeing themselves for what they/we are. I bet he doesn’t realize how his actions have been perceived and his intentions were misplaced.

Just distance yourself. I’ve been lucky to not have a toxic parent but have had toxic family members I had to back away from. Still see them at some family functions and the occasional family get together but I don’t have much to do with them outside of that.

Not really much to appreciate, quite honestly.

My parents got divorced when I was a kid and I harbored a lot of resentment towards my mother for years. I eventually grew out of it. When you are a kid/teenager you expect your parents to be perfect but when you get older you come to realize they are just people.

Then just cut ties with him if you feel that way. No sense in putting yourself through the regret by what you say to him that you probably shouldn’t.

Learn from his mistakes. Do better yourself.

But he’s your father. Deal with it.

Rinse and repeat.

Best of luck

It’s not about divorce. It’s the countless other things that have added up over the years.

You think you’re the first person from ATM to have daddy issues?

At least he kept you off the pole

Once read that boys go through 3 stages of life with their father.

One where we think they know everything; another where we think they know nothing, and lastly, one where we wish they were here to ask them.

It wasn't necessarily about divorce. I barely spoke to my mom from maybe age 13-21 which is something I regret now.

Did he do something specifically awful to you like abuse or is he just someone you think is an a-hole in general that you can't get along with?

Talk to him and tell him exactly how you feel before giving up.

You should do this with anyone you consider close.
