Some of you may recall this incident. I was 9 or 10 at the time. There were 3 kids who I believe had just graduated high school that drowned in the Amite river outside of Clinton in Bluff Creek. When they found the 3 boys, they had tied themselves together with a rope and attempted to cross the river.
Well my friend and I were back there riding out bikes when it happened. We knew they were there and my friends parents told us to just leave them alone, so we kept our distance. As we were riding our bikes we saw them standing by the bank of the river and I could tell they were messing with a rope. No big deal, my friend and I keep doing our thing.
As we are riding our bikes I spot something really strange and immediately stop. There's a rusted chain literally sticking straight up out of the sand making a perfect arch and going back down. I called my friend over to come look at it because a chain can't possibly make a rigid arch and defy gravity in that manner. Well when we turned around, it was gone, nowhere to be seen. When I stopped, this thing was maybe 3 to 4 feet away from me and I never moved.
My friend and I looked around for a second and in that time frame I saw what looked like the boys stepping into the river. After a few seconds he and I both immediately came down with this really weird feeling. We looked at each other and both said we need to get out of here. I looked back one more time and didn't see anyone where I had just seen the boys. We took off and went back home as fast as we could.
To this day, those events still give me chills.
Trying to figure this story out. What does the chain have to do with them drowning?

Nothing more than the timeline. It was just an extremely odd scenario where we happened to be in the presence of 3 kids drowning. The chain disappearing at almost the exact same time the kids did freaked us the hell out.
I think it freaks me out more now than it did then thinking about what else could have happened. Had the chain thing not occurred, we would have likely stayed where we were. What if we had heard them scream and tried to help? Could have gotten ourselves pulled in. Who knows.

Caving in Bat Cave, North Carolina, I was in a group of four who had gone in a fairly complex system, where we entered into a lower entrance and were planing on exiting from another higher entrance. Unlike most limestone caves, this cave was in a thousand foot thick granite cap, and was composed of narrow fractures in the granite. The passages were mostly three to four feet wide, and anywhere from 10 to 100 ft high, and with the walls so close, it was possible to put your feet against one wall and your back against the other wall, and "chimney" up to higher levels. The crux of the trip was chimneying up about 75 feet, and traversing 20 ft across the top of a crack to a ledge on the other side. The scary part was that the "crack" opened up to about 15 feet wide at its base and we were depending on pressure and friction to hold ourselves above this 75 ft drop... I was bringing up the rear, and watched as my three friends jammed themseves into the crack and slowly slid along sideways over the abyss, watching them as they slid onto a ledge that became the bottom of yet another passage. I started across, my back against one wall and my feet aginst the other, and begin to slide sideways toward my friends... What no one had really noticed, or thought about, was that I was the shortest of the group at 5'9'', they were all 6' or more, and a bit long waisted...meaning my legs were shorter. About half way across, I realized that the passage was getting wider, and I was having to arch my body a bit to maintain pressure. And every time I slid over, I began to slide down as I moved closer to the ledge! By the time I traversed those last few feet, I was 3 feet below the ledge, and on my tip toes - scared shitless. One of my companions tied a 20 ft utility rope to an outcropping and passed a noose to me, that I dropped over my shoulders, and under my arms, and then the tallest guy laid down with the other two holding his legs, and tossed me a looped piece of webbing, and they pulled me up and to safety. I can't tell you HOW BAD IT FELT when I lost my foothold and dangled helplessly, totally dependent on the arms and backs of my friends as the pulled me up enough to clutch at the ledge over my head...

OUCH. I bet that hurts like a MFER.
Isn't the defib supposed to shock him back into normal rhythm, or was it malfunctioning?

Watching my wife choke on a hotdog in front of my little girl (who is 20 months) about 2 weeks ago. I was watching TV in the den and they were both in the kitchen. Kept hearing my little girl yell "Mom" "Mom" with no answer from the wife. I finally screamed "answer her"! Nothing. I look over into the kitchen and see my wife choking. Pale white and a look of terror in her face. I ran, jumped over the couch and look-in wall. Gave one her one pull of the Heimlich and that fricking hotdog flew 15 feet across the kitchen. Once she caught her breath she hugged me for what felt like hours. I still get freaked out when I think of her facial expression.

I was 15 at the time, and had just got my learners permit. My dad's mom had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage that summer and we were over in west Alabama, staying at her house, and driving back and forth to Meridian every day to check on her and spend the day at the hospital while she recovered. Mom had a little Nissan 240SX, and for some reason that day she didn't feel like the drive and thought I could use the practice. Just a little two lane country road for about 30 miles. I'm driving down a hill that is curving to the left, and back up it, still curving to the left. There is a Mack Dump Truck I see up ahead waiting to pull out, to my left. I guess from his angle in the drivers seat, and the fact our car was pretty short and small, he didn't see us and started to pull out. I'm cruising about 60-65 mph, and out of the corner of my eye I see him pulling out. I'm closing on him fast, and there was no time to brake or we'd have hit his passenger side head on. I lay on the horn, whip that little car over onto the shoulder into the dirt, and look left as I pass in front of him. I saw the big M A C K letters about 18 inches from my face as we fly by. I get back on the road, and my Mom had nearly shite herself. She was reading a book or filing her nails or something, not paying attention to my driving. We'd made this drive every day for like 2 weeks and it was just routine. I'm just glad I saw him or we'd both likely be dead now. It was about 15-20 minutes to the Hospital from there, and I was standing in a waiting room once we got there, still shaking from it. I'd always thought that expression "Shaking in my boots" about being scared was just some stupid saying until that happened to me.

Party after 8th grade graduation. Was with a group throwing water balloons at cars in a very rural area. A car came back around and caught our butts. Two large guys roughed us up a little, threatened to "get a gun", and then wanted us to lay down to run over us. Time stood still at the age of 14.

It was all caught on film by their photographer.

The other day when I was working around my house, and a stray pit bull snuck up behind me out of nowhere. I turned around and he was right there and he snapped at me, then charged me. I backpedaled and tripped over the lawnmower and then kicked him in the head, luckily it stunned him enough for me to run to my truck and get my .357. Put one right between his eyes and dropped him dead..I was shaking for 15 minutes. No clue where he came from, I live in the country.
A close second was one night me and 2 friends were out drunk riding back roads. There is this place where back in the civil war some Indians apparently drowned themselves in the river instead of giving up their land to union soldiers. It's supposed to be haunted. Well we go out there drunk and my buddy gets out to piss on the riverbank...soon as he does that weird shite starts happening. I hear bloodcurdling screams coming from the water and get a whiff of rotten flesh. The water glows yellow and the wind picks up out of nowhere. The sense of fear and dread and death that I felt at that moment was so overpowering I just wanted to curl up in a fetal position and cry. We jump in the truck and it won't start...we run for a mile to get away from that place and call a friend to pick us up. Next day went back and my truck cranked right up. True story..it was some freaky shite

Feb 1991 Desert Shield/Storm
Narrowly escaped a ZSU (soviet anti aircraft gun)that had a bead on me....
My lead made his gun pass and was watching it as I was making my pass and he called "Break Left". 23mm ZSU fired and raked the starboard engine and vertical stab. I was lucky because there was no damage the elevator and the port stab...
Limped back to base and managed to settle the Hawg on the runway
