A year ago or so. My niece used to love to ride with me on my motorcycle, so I'd ride her there to the BR library off Goodwood pick out a book and back.

Our library is a hub of activity for the small town I live in. Tens of thousands of volumes available for reservation / checkout from all regional libraries. lots of meeting rooms for civic / scout meetings, programs and a play area for kids, computers w interweb access for poor people, can bring your coffee in, the librarians have good literary advice (recently turned me on to John Connolly)...what's not to like?
IMO one of the BEST uses of my taxpayer money.

Monday. The library is the last sane bastion of civilization. I try to go there at least one time per week in an attempt to simply read words printed on actual paper and momentarily escape 21st century technology. And the smell of the library is one of my top 5 smells in all the world.

About 6 months ago I went to the Library to print a single page towards renewal of a professional license. Damned State of Louisiana is the only one out of my 4 states renewals that requires a print. It's also the only thing I ever used the home printer for so of course the inkjets dried out and clogged up.
Library didn't even charge me a nickel for the paper. A new printer would've cost about $50 plus the shopping time and would be another dead printer along with the old one by now too.
There was cute teen girl working (she took some instructions from older woman) at one desk and 2 fat nerd teens (boy and girl, or whatever they want to call themselves these days, transcishethemorroids??) doing something at a PC terminal. The old woman librarian was shopping online at the main desk.

Monday.
Ouachita Parish has one of the better library systems in the country. I remember reading they received the top rating a couple of years ago, five stars I think, and it's one of two in the state and fifty I believe in the country to receive it. The main branch shows it's age but by and large they are awesome.
If there's a something I want I have an app on my phone that I open up, look it up and press request, and the next morning it's there waiting on me to pick up. They have lots of new stuff and always have stuff for the kids. I can use the app to keep track of what I have out and if I want to renew it just click a button and it's done.

Found an older article, rated sixth in the nation in their tier. First ever five star system in Louisiana.

This evening.
Returned three CDs that I definitely didn't rip to my hard drive, and picked up the next Marvel Civil War graphic novel that I had held.
If you leverage your library, there's a ton to get out of it.

Today, matter of fact. Had to babysit 70 high schoolers in the library every period while their teachers hosted an expo. They watched Deepwater Horizon for two hours, then left. I had to stay all day with each subsequent block so I watched Deepwater Horizon four times.
frick a library, frick BP and frick John Malkovich's shitty accent.

Ouch is right. Legitimately felt like I had a hangover when I left work.
