So the committee has begun interviewing the 9 candidates left for BRPD chief. The Mayor, in the name of transparency, has made these public...

They only did half the interviews today. And the remaining ones take place in two weeks.
How fricking dumb do you have to be to not realize that a public interview with other candidates sitting in and half of them getting two weeks to prepare is a bad idea???

This smacks of being proactive to any backlash given to the winning candidate. I would wager the decision was 98% made prior to the interviews. Maybe rhe black male Chief deserved it. I do not know.

I've heard of a few companies having all the candidates for a job interview all together in one group setting.
Personally, i'd hate that, but for some type extrovert type jobs, I could see it being maybe OK.
But under no circumstance do I see having one group first, then tell the second group what to expect.
Sounds like what that woman did for Hillary on the CNN debates last year.
