Sure there are a lot of hobbyist stay at home moms out there, but for real photographers who use photography as a means to live how is $400 per session unreasonable?

Are true professional will have business expenses like any other business.

They have to buy health insurance, business insurance, retirement etc.

There are operating expenses, storage, cameras, lenses, computers, website ect.

It's the CODB. Most true professional photographers have calculated their CODB. It is what is is.

overediting

My wife and I paid a lot for some family pics. Went to the session and almost didn’t recognize us. We looked like cartoon characters

Our lady we use now is really good, moderately expensive but does a good job

How is any of this my problem? It’s still overcharging for their so called skill that most people can do with a month of training

If they shot the photo correctly, it shouldn't take long to edit.

Then break out the cell phone and have grandma take some photos of you and the fam and quit complaining about it.

Sure there’s skill and shot set up and stuff involved for filming and all...but for wedding pics? It’s an entry level job. Just get a bunch of action shots

go hire a FB mom and then hire a real wedding photographer and tell me there is no difference

composition, lighting, editing, etc are not "entry level"

Ask the photographer if they know anything about "manual mode" on the camera or if they only shoot in auto. That should help separate the legit ones from the hobbyists.

It is one of those fad jobs for women to gravitate towards to. You have to pay for a good one but there are a ton of mediocre ones that just want to say they are photographer

Lighting. Where the difference is. Like ones that know it instantly with minimal tweeks, not constant testing it during the shoot.

We spent thousands more than we anticipated. Completely worth it though. Those pictures are by far my most valueable material possession.

For pictures that will be looked at once?

Probably not enough to justify a couple grand

as it's been said, you get what you pay for. I've seen the pics on FB of families that had their family photos taken by 'professional' photographers. It looks like they're standing behind frosted glass.
