I was reading something and it referred to "the American mafia". According to wikipedia the American Mafia was mafia of the 2nd generation of immigrants who were in the mob.. But I never heard something referred to as "the American Mafia".

The American Mafia is La Cosa Nostra. There is no single Italian Mafia. There is a Sicilian Mafia in Sicily, the Camorra in Naples and the N'Drangheta in Calabria.

I think they mean the Kennedys and the Clintons.
The Bushs are simply gangsters.

My in-laws are Sicilian-American. Going stay with the extended family in Palermo the first week of May. It’s 4 generations under the same roof in a 4 story building downtown. The oldest generation living on the ground floor. Way it’s been described sounds like a lot of fun.

The American Mafia consists of the Five Families in New York, the Chicago Outfit, the New England, Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City, Florida, New Jersey & Los Angeles Crime Families. The oldest Mafia Family in the United States was led by an Italian criminal by the name of Calogero Minacore. He was better known as Carlos Marcello and ruled New Orleans for over 40 years.
There were also members of the Sicilian Mafia in the U.S. in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Probably here illegally, they were helping two of the New York Families (Bonanno and Gambino) in various racketeering activities, most notably drug dealing. These Sicilians were known as “Zips”.
