When should I get a lawyer involved? Townhouse rental related.

I recently moved into a new construction townhouse. There have been nothing but inconveniences since day one. 2 hour delay on getting keys on move-in day, parking spot occupied by a unknown van for over 5 days (parking is in lease). Maintenance workers coming into townhouse without authorization and leaving front door completely unlocked.

This is without the worst moving experience I've had. Just curious if anyone knows anything about getting a lawyer involved with rental properties.

I know that I'm poor but that doesn't mean you can treat peasants like the way I'm being treated.

I love you people that say “I’m going to get a lawyer” for stuff like this.

Question:
1) what lawyer is going to exactly take this case wherein there are no damages that you have sustained, thus no payoff at the end of a drawn out process?;

2) if you could find a lawyer to take this whopper of a case, what exactly are you going to pay the lawyer with? You admitted you are poor.

How about just going to the landlord and expressing your frustration about the situation?

ETA: “I’’m going to get my lawyer” is the most played out phrase for people that have no idea how the real world works as it relates to getting “a lawyer involved.”

ETA2: even if you have a case, what type of reparations do you think you are entitled to? $1,000,000 will that do? The most you would be entitled to is perhaps your security deposit back and being let out of your lease free to
Move on and be a pain in the arse to another lucky landlord.

Does your lease state you must get authorization?
Generally the landlord can enter for needed maintenance.
But a decent landlord coordinates with the tenants.

Actually, that's exactly what that means.

This doesn’t sound like a legal case. If the owner didn’t violate the lease or any contractual agreements, you have no case.

Lease states that tenants must have a 24 hour notice prior to entry.

Still, not sure what you would expecr to get from that. Maybe a month of free rent or something like that. It’s not worth the headache of getting a lawyer involved. I would write down the time and date of all these happening and record the same for the future. If this continues for an extended time, you might have a case.

Dude seriously. Just have an adult conversation with your landlord. It’s really that simple. You would be amazed what face to face interaction can do.

Honestly man, things arent always going to be perfect and you will be inconvenienced at times. Part of life. Deal with it.

Oh is that you off Hyacinth in Mayfair subdivision? How's the neighborhood?

Dude...set up a couple of hidden cameras. Document phone calls. Right now, you have no case.

Anything stolen?

That parking spot killing you? Are you handicapped?

Just curious on when to get a lawyer involved. With nothing but inconveniences since day one, you have to take the initiative and stop them before it gets out of hand. Otherwise you'll just keep being taken advantage of.

Unfortunately I can't deal with the landlord. I get to deal with the property management company. And these fricks are the most incompetent people in the world.

No...you move out. And you learn a lesson. I lived in rental properties from age 18 to 33. I did not get my first big boy house until my wife and I fixed up her starter home. Now we've got an OT 7 house. And I know rental properties that are unreal...esp off Highland and even into Perkins in Ascension Parish. frick renting.

What kind of truck or car you drive? Cost over 30k? Sell it. Drive a 2006 Camry or a 2007 F 150. What about cable or gym memberships or Amazon addiction? Get rid of that and buy a house that you can pay a 1400/month mortgage on. Renting sucks. Do what you have to do. Get away from situations like you have described.

Likely lost 2 to 3 grand to frickstick landlords who had no intentions but to screw me out of my security deposit from day one. Stain on carpet? Dog hair in AC vent? They will pull out the looking glass to do whatever they can to get theirs. Why bother with that?

Probably none. No one got hurt or fricked out of a substantial sum of money. His best play is to either refuse to pay rent and find another place to live or bitch enough to management that they do something.

Man, seriously a lawyer is not taking a case like this.

If it got to the point wherein this went on for a while and you wanted out of your lease and the landlord said frick you pay me you have a lease than i would go to small claims court in your local parish. I would file a pro se petition against the landlord. In that petition i would list the times that the landlord violated the lease terms. I would also attach the lease as an exhibit. Then i would have the civil sheriff serve the landlord with my petition. He would be forced to appear. A mini trial would ensue before a small claims judge or justice of peace. That person would levy a judgment. A lawyer would not take a case like this without a $1,500 -2500 retainer, if you could find one.

Just document your grievance, talk to the landlord, and or if you get no satisfaction send him a certified return receipt letter outlining your position and the alleged wrongs in case you have to go to small claims court to get out of the lease and try to recoup some of your lease payments or deposit.

Otherwise buck up and deal with first world inconveniences. On and welcome to the real world. The journey is hard and laborious, but it’s a hell of a ride

When your aggravation and principals are worth $ 350 per hour, plus expenses....THAT is when you should get a lawyer involved.

yep. I have nutcases approach me with stuff like this a few times a year and give them about 5 minutes before I tell them the work will be billed hourly. (You pretty much already know when every plaintiff's lawyer in town has turned them away and now they are coming to a defense firm).

"But, I thought you could just like, take a piece of whatever we win..."

"How much do you think a blocked parking space is worth?"
