You flash your lights to let them over into your lane when they have their turn signals on and they don’t give you the little rear light courtesy acknowledgment? That’s gonna suck. I always enjoy that little acknowledgement. Makes me feel good to be an American.

I don't think we're as close to this as everyone thinks we are. If I had to guess, the big trucking companies will continue having people in the cab for at least 5-10 years after the technology is available just for liability reasons.

I will probably be dead when/if this ever happens. And I'm not that old.

What stops people from blocking in a self-driving truck and looting it? Surely they'll be programmed to stop if there are obstructions.

Absolutely nothing. The truck smash and grab will be huge. Funny because I was going to work that into the OP . Great minds and all that...

why would a robot need you to let it know to get over. They're going to have sensors far superior to you and me all around the vehicle.

Wasn’t it just last week a self driving truck took a reefer of butter from California to Pennsylvania? There was a driver behind the wheel the whole trip, but claimed he never had to intervene. I think self driving trucks aren’t too terribly far off from handling long stretches of interstate, with drivers meeting the truck at a stop to take it into the city

The AI should help them learn to drive slow in the left lane because they are ‘passing’ a car that’s half a mile away

The AI should also learn to write show your tits in the dirt on the back trailer doors

I never, ever, never, ever, NEVER let a semi over. They leave their cruise on 67 to pass a truck doing 66 and stay in the lane forever. All so they can get their fuel bonus. Frick 'em let them get over when there is no risk of them holding up 50 cars in the left lane and causing all sorts of issues.

I have driven trucks before (my dad was an O/O) and he still drives once in a while. I wouldn't let him over. Well actually I would because he runs about 80 most of the time.
