When Ford stops making cars,

Will there be backlash from Americans and the president? I'm sure they will have to cut jobs or shut down plants.
GM got alot of crap about it, and Ford already said they are doing away with all cars besides the mustang. Will Ford change their mind?

All of this has already happened. You think they decided to stop making cars, announced it, and then starting thinking about shutting plants?

Ford will be more of a software company than an auto company in fifteen years.

Serious question: Are you retarded?

One of the reason Ford is halting production of cars is because of the buying trends on American carbuyers. Why then would there be a backlash from American's?

They're obviously doing that because Americans hate trucks and SUVs

The other reason - and this goes for GM as well - is that their cars are god awful.
Maybe if they would've taken some styling notes from BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo (Giulia is my next car), or even Lexus instead of using the styling notes of a Transformers happy meal toy they'd be selling cars. No one wants a generic hunk of plastic with a shite eating grin of a grille and front end.
Also, performance and handling matter. American automakers have gotten the performance part down with the V8 Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs, and Camaros, but we still don't know how to make a car with decent handling.
THAT'S why their cars aren't selling - not because the "American buyer" prefers gas-guzzling SUVs or trucks; the shitty cars LED to the preference.

Although Ford did not need money from the $80 billion bailout program, Ford did receive $5.9 billion in government loans in 2009 to retool its manufacturing plants to produce more fuel-efficient cars,
When Obama became president he weaponized the EPA.
Ford didn’t take the loan because of a failing business model, GM did.
Because they were required by EPA law to go in this direction. Not to mention their number one competitor just became state owned
They weren’t making these cars because the consumer wanted them, it’s because the govt demanded it. Ford had to take the loan.
Crony capitalism at its finest.
Eta: all theee US manufacturers took the energy loan
Eta 2: Ford didn’t get a nickel from the TARP bailout,

Nah they’ll just ramp up truck and SUV production and that’ll fill the production gaps. Or something.
I just hope someone starts making a compact pickup again. I want a S-10 or Mazda B-series size truck.

I'm not surprised you thibk this, but, per usual, you're wrong. All of the big auto manufacturers have spent significant money investing in tech companies that do many things.
