I don't want my car to drive itself, I actually enjoy driving even if it's a regular commute.

And that's another problem with GM and Ford, they don't make cars that one would ENJOY to drive.

Yup. I enjoy driving too, its relaxing. Especially living out in a rural area of the country like I do.

I don’t mind driving, either, but it’s ignorant to think otherwise and not see the writing on the wall. Ford is already moving in that direction - they’re already one of the biggest employers of software developers in the country.

It is utterly amazing how this lie keeps getting told and retold.

Ford did take goverment cheese.

Maybe if they would've taken some styling notes from BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo (Giulia is my next car), or even Lexus instead of using the styling notes of a Transformers happy meal toy they'd be selling cars. No one wants a generic hunk of plastic with a shite eating grin of a grille and front end.

Holy shite, Lexus styling? They're god awful, as is most of Toyota's products right now styling wise. And their trucks are beyond outdated in fuel mileage and features.

Honda is having trouble moving the Accord, and most of those other companies you mentioned are moving more SUVs and crossovers as well.

quote:

Also, performance and handling matter. American automakers have gotten the performance part down with the V8 Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs, and Camaros, but we still don't know how to make a car with decent handling.

It is amazing how people who don't have a clue about something still pontificate on it and make themselves look foolish.

The base Corvette, Camaro SS, and Mustang GT are very good handlers, and the Z06 Corvette, ZL1 Camaro, and GT350 Mustang are some of the worlds very best handling cars.

quote:

THAT'S why their cars aren't selling - not because the "American buyer" prefers gas-guzzling SUVs or trucks; the shitty cars LED to the preference.

Except that's exactly what the numbers say for every single automaker. SUVs, crossovers, and trucks are what people are buying.

It's wild seeing so much completely insanely wrong info in one post.

If GM, Ford and Chrysler made better cars they would still be in the car business. They didn't so they aren't, or aren't much longer.

The Fusion, Focus, and Fiesta were both some of the best vehicles in their respective classes. The Impala and the Cadillac cars were not bad at all.

The numbers don't lie. Almost every single brand is selling more crossovers and SUVs here. Don't be surprised if the European automakers follow suit soon in this market.

Despite what so many are saying, it's a irrefutable fact that crossovers and SUVs are what Americans are buying more of now.

Goddamn, some people just don't know jack shite about the automotive industry.

When more cars are self driving, they'll communicate with each other and use sophisticated algorithms so that traffic as we know it will be obsolete. I'll gladly give up holding the wheel if my commute time is cut in half. That's give me more of my life not sitting in a goddamn car.

More bullshite. Many of their products are dynamically competitive and have been for some time.

Didn't Ford pretty much copy Aston Martin for their sedan designs?

What?

the Impala was voted best full size sedan 3 years in a row. Impala was also a top 10 best seller.

As do most Americans, so many more people will benefit from self driving cars than not.

Sorry you're a hick.

This x100. The decline in midsize and compact sales has been almost exactly offset by increases in crossover and small truck sales. The average American customer prefers bigger and more roomy at the expense of maybe 2-3 average MPG, and with how inexpensive fuel is right now that’s a no brainer.

The good news for enthusiasts is that performance sedans and coupes still have enough of a niche market that they won’t be going away anytime soon.

Everybody has their own thing. The thought of living in Nebraska would depress me.

I'm sure you'd say the same about where I'm at. But after 45 years in Louisiana, I'm as happy as a pig in shite.
