I can tell you I've only felt a tremendous weight lifted off my shoulders after putting down both my wife's dog and then my own. The build up is always worse IMO.

Our dog Lucy was diagnosed with bone cancer on her front leg. This is after her surviving mast cell two years ago. They said we could amputate and maybe have her around for a few more months. We decided against that. She still gets around real good and has a lot of spunk despite her illness. We are just letting her enjoy her last days before we have to put her down. They have a way of letting you know when it’s time...

We put our lab down a few weeks ago; she would have been 14 in a month. One morning her eyes changed & she just had a pleading look. She'd had an abdominal tumor for about a year & melanoma in her mouth. We had her euthanized at home. It's gut-wrenching.

When the animal is suffering it is time to put them down. No reason to let them keep suffering. For some reason we allow people to continue suffering for selfish reasons, but don't just let it just keep living if it is suffering and there isn't anything that can be done to help.

Okay. My cat is 7lbs and the dose I give him daily is 3ml. Like I said I usually mix a tablespoon of Miralax and dilute it a bit with water and suck it into the syringe. One squirt usually does it, although I do two squirts if he hasn't pooped in a day or two. I like to make sure he's regular. Hope this helps!

I’ve heard putting them on anti depressants can stop UTI’s.. research it. My vet did it for my cat and I’ve seen good results just from that with cats who neither getting the uti blockage and this was the only thing to stop it. I have to give it daily though. I’ve read stories of nothing else stopping reoccurring UTI’s except this. Just research. Any chance you could get a second opinion of another vet?
I wouldn’t consider putting down a pet who is happy and eating. Is she also on a special diet? I recommend getting maybe UroMAXX Urinary Tract, Kidney & Bladder Formula for Cats and Dogs. Research this as well.
I don’t think it’s time at all. Maybe see about possible fiber solutions to help with the constipations. Sometimes a broth diet is the best cure all.

Get a syringe and how her tjecrecvinmended amount is.. also get that uti product I mentioned. Just hold them down and slowly shoot out the liquid from a syringe into the side of their mouth. With practice it’ll get easier to do and they will just lick it and swallow it down.. they hate and I hate doing it but it’s the quickest way to make sure they take their medicine or supplements. You’ll get the hang of it.

The Glucosamine as (HCL) ingredient in the product I recommended is the main ingredient you need for uti’s.
Also seriously do research on AD’s.
And do you have her on the special diet of c/d multicare. My cat wouldn’t eat the cab stuff so I buy their dry version and he eats it fine and I give him wet liquid food outside of that.

yeah, my cat has gotten pretty patient after awhile. Look, don't put your cat down. This is a fixable problem. If you can't handle giving her the meds, maybe find another home for her. Like someone else said, as long as she's eating she's healthy. I know the constipation is a pain, but it's not worth putting the animal down.

Well, that isn't an option. I am not giving her away, she has been with me since she was a kitten. I don't have a problem giving her medicine, I just know how difficult it can be to get her to take anything orally and putting it in her food is no longer an option since she is not eating enough every day and refuses the food with medicine in it.
I am taking her to the vet tomorrow to run some blood work and get her an enema plus antibiotics for the UTI. Then I will start her on the Miralax and hopefully she will be back to normal. If not, then I won't have a choice. She has been doing nothing but trying to urinate/poop all weekend and she has to be miserable. Hardly eating. I have to lock her in the back room so she doesn't pee all over the house. That is no life.

Reading this thread makes me sad. I have a 15 year old cat too and she’s showing her age pretty bad. She’s developed arthritis in her back legs but it doesn’t seem to cause her pain, she just walks kinda funny. I took her to the vet last week because she was hardly eating and he gave her a cortisone shot for a few flea bites and that has temporarily helped. She’s eating and gaining weight back. She’s a spoiled little shite and still seems to be happy so I’m not doing anything yet but I know that day is coming quicker than I’d like. Say what you want about cats but they make great pets and you sure get attached to them. People that say cats don’t have personality have never had their own cat for a period of time.

Wait ... our male cat peed in the house a time or two when he'd always just sat by the door to be let outside. Brought him in to the vet and he had a UTI. Gave him a shot and he'd be ok I was told.
Two days later he was CRYING like a baby at 10 at night and we had to bring him to the pet ER. He needed surgery for crystals in his urinary tract; everything was blocked and he couldn't pee. When we went back to our normal vet on Monday, she was so apologetic that the initial treatment failed.
We changed his food, have a litter box in the house (yeah I know) to be able to monitor everything and he's been find ever since. We feed him Purina Feline UR; I get it at the vet and it's $60 or so but lasts for about 3 months.
Maybe ask about it??

Not sure where you’re located but a coworker has a cat that was to the point of being out down for arthritis.
Vet at Dutchtown Animal Hospital is now offering a laser treatment, it’s 6 of them done a few days apart.
She said it took a couple of treatments to notice a difference but it has helped.
ETA
To the OP, I would for sure try a kidney care food along with a probiotic or high fiber treat if she won’t take meds well.
There are tons of probiotic “treats” & I was able to find high fiber dog treats on Amazon, sure they would have them for cats too.

Kiki passed away this morning. I took her to the vet yesterday and the vet suggested we do X-Rays and bloodwork to make sure. The blood work wasn't bad but her blockage from the constipation was as bad as he had seen. He wanted to keep her overnight to see if he could get anything moving. They called me this morning to say she passed. My only regret is that I didn't put her down yesterday but I couldn't make that decision without the blood-work and X-Rays. Even with those results I said no because if an enema had worked she may have pulled through. She lived a good life and luckily didn't develop this problem until the last couple of years so for the most part she has been a healthy and happy cat. I sure will miss her. I got her when I first moved to LSU and didn't know anyone here. She's been with me through a LOT. RIP Kiki. I hope she is running in a field somewhere chasing tons of lizards and chewing on all the grass she wants.
