My parents never had to tell me. I moved into my college dorm and never went home.

My father, rightly, made the rules. When I decided I wanted to make my own rules, I got my own place. I was 23.
I stayed home a year after college.

They didn't.
I got a job 45 minutes away and only had a truck, so it made more sense for me to get an apartment there as gas back and forth would've costed more.
I'm glad it worked out like that and it went well. Both my brother and sister kind of had rough exits under bad circumstances, which led to issues for a few years.

I informed them when I got my college acceptance letter

Conversation never happened. A few months before high school graduation I came home and told my parents I joined the Army at the dinner table. They begged me to STAY in the house.

“They didn’t have to” is the only acceptable answer.

Moved out to go to college at 18. Moved back in with them while I was in law school. Moved out a month after passing the bar at 25.
Going to law school in New Orleans and living at home instead of going to LSU and paying for rent in BR was the best decision I ever made. Probably saved $50k+ by living at my parents' house for those 3 years.
I even tried to move out while in law school and my dad refused to let me, despite me making decent income clerking in the summer. He basically called me a moron for an hour straight when I said I wanted to leave
Definitely the right call.

They didn't have to. I grew up, got a job, got married and moved into my own house.
Same. I moved out after high school and went off to college. Never came back except to visit.
And it wasn't because we had a bad relationship. We didn't. My parents taught me how to take care of myself and I wanted to get out there and give it a try. I am forever appreciative.

My brother in law is 36 and never left home. No college and hops from job to job. His folks think if they make him leave they’ll never hear from or see him again so they let him stay. Sad really. He smart just lazy AF

Did DEP for the Army my senior year and had to wait 6 months after I graduated when I got my basic training start date. I worked 2 part time jobs and paid rent and bills until I left. I really didn't need to be told to leave I just did and was 18.

I left at age 21 when I got a real job. I remember walking out the door and my mother crying on the phone to my dad because I was leaving. My dad's response? " about dam time"

Never.
I wanted to get out of the house when I went to college. Even though I went to college in my hometown. In fact, my parents wanted me to live at home while I was in college so they, and I, could avoid the expense of me living on my own.
Now, as a parent, it's going to be hard for me to let my children move out on their own when the time comes. And if they choose to attend college in our hometown, I will offer them to continue to live at home. However, I know moving out and being on their own is a necessary part of growing up and becoming independent. I won't stand in their way.

No one had to tell me to leave, I wanted to leave cause I was ready to be on my own.
