What you're experiencing is pretty normal for folks, 25-30 yrs old.
The naive optimism and confidence you were bursting with after college/entering the real world has faded and the drudgery of being a working stiff has weighed on your soul.

Good news though. Your perspective will change in just a few short years. You'll embrace your 30s and grab life by the horns again. You'll stop feeling dread and hopelessness and start feeling grateful for your health and livelihood.
You'll start enjoying simple things like pretty sunrises and serene lakes.

I’m just curious you’d assume that at the age of 29? I’m 62 and feel like I’m enjoying some of the best years of my life! God has seen fit to bless me more than I could have ever imagined of which I’m very thankful! I learned a long time ago that life is what you make it so I try to make each day better than the one before! :)

I meant more in the sense that it'll go by faster.

Dealing with a friend who committed suicide in high school. Makes you cherish everyday especially when talking to his parents to this day

I'm the same way as the OP.

Also 29 and turn 30 in a couple months. As a kid I always thought life was going very slow and I would never reach being an adult, yet here I am almost 30, and everything feels like it's going so fast, and before I know it, I'll be like 80 on my death bed. It's crazy.

It does go by fast but, like I said, it’s how you choose to love those days. Try, as best as you can, to make each one count and maybe just a little better than the one before!

While death physically destroys us, mentally it motivates us.

Probably about 2 hours ago. Like you I’m also 29

Got off work and went to Target. Picked up a few things for the wife and baby. Saw some college aged kids goofing off in one of the aisles. Thought to myself, my friends and I used to go do the same thing late at night to procrastinate from studying. That was NINE years ago. Time is flying by.

Still lots to look forward to though. Mostly because I think the 30’s will be the best decade of our life

Age 19 in Vietnam. I learned early as a Marine grunt that life can end quickly and violently or with a whimpered cry.

It altered my perspective on life and instilled a new appreciation for each day and a renewed will to survive.

Funny, though, with the start of each firefight, I felt it was finally my time. After the battle, I felt immortal.

Then the next firefight, I felt that was it. Afterward, “I must indeed be immortal.”

The next battle, rinse and repeat.

Age 72 now. After several more different types of battles, well, maybe I am immortal.

Until that next battle, then …

I just keep reading this over and over. My sincere condolences. Now I feel like I’ve got to get up and go check on my 8 year old.

Just hit 40 a few days ago, I've grown more appreciative of the good moments over the years. I know when I'm passing on to the next plane, or going into the dust, I'll look back on those moments and they will be the most special things I could ever hold onto. Life is good

When I was 27. (Vietnam, 1965.) There is nothing like war to make you realize you aren't immortal.

29-30. I’ll be 35 soon and I don’t know where time went. Son will be a teen next year, I can relate to the last 5 years flying by.

I did get to really enjoy my summer this year. So I am happy for that. I told the wife I guess this is my midlife and I’ll live to 70. Anxiety & stress was high the last 5 years, but that seems to be settling down. Minus two older kids going at it, it’s amazing with how much parents can put up with.

My father passed when I was 29. It was then that I realized I’d possibly lived 50% of my life, 30% if I was lucky. Grateful for every day in my 40s.

I was 18 when I lost my dad to a massive heart attack at age 45.

Three years ago, I was 31 and lost my older brother to the same at age 34. I took my brother's death much harder, because it made me realize that it could be me that was leaving behind a wife and young kids. It's tough losing your first best friend and protector
