I guess so
Point is we don’t need to eat as much or as often as we think. Just because you get a little hungry doesn’t mean you need a double cheeseburger

Today, we expect every meal to be a feast. At home, we pile our plates and restaurants would serve huge portions. Daily, we are eating more calories than we can burn, and we gain weight.

I don’t disagree but in the south, 50 years ago, people were still eating fried foods and pies. South has always been kind of known to go all out with eating, but back then, most everyone was still lean. It’s just people moved and did manual labor. Even at home when you worked in the yard it was more labor. Now people have riding mowers for the 1/4 acre plot, hire a maid to clean the house, and sit on their couch. Even country living isn’t near about what it use to be. Go to someone’s house out in the woods and kids are still staring at screens all day along mom and dad doing the same thing.

The food we eat hasn’t changed all that much . What has is portion sizes , the amount we eat, and our sedentary life we live now.

When they supersized the food it supersized the people.

Even then, they likely ate less processed carbs and drank less soft drinks than today. A few hundred less calories per day over the decades makes all the difference.

Yep, this is all true.

The average max security inmate gets more yard time than the average child does.

There was an ad on TV circa 1995 where it was claimed that "when pizza's on a bagel, you can eat pizza any time!"

I remember thinking, no... that doesn't sound right at all.

When private schools popped up to protect our children from going to school with black kids. Moms had to go back to work to pay for the schooling. Homemade meals declined and fast food was born. Unpopular opinion I know.

The food has changed so much that there's little nutritional value to it. I'm talking about a mainstream, standard American diet. We used to have nutrient rich foods full of fat that would satiate your body and thus, needing small portions to fill up. The standard american is now fat and poorly nourished.

I have a theory I just thought about. Maybe as more women have entered the workforce over the decades, there are less stay at home moms which means less women willing to cook after coming home from work.

Eating out more often = unhealthy and adding to obesity.

Also, I remember reading a theory before that another factor is people smoke less now. Smoking let people thinner.

When mega food corporations paid off the "scientific" community to start pushing upside down nutrition standards, ie- Animal fats bad. Carbs good. Look at Americans now.

This is exactly the answer. The grain industry sold the bullshite "food pyramid" to the government along with some bogus "studies" to back their claims. The only thing that got fatter than the American people are the grain industry's wallets.

Yes they were but they used beef tallow, lard, real butter etc. not the seed oils used today. It makes a difference.

You don’t need to eat kale and organic foods to be healthy. You just need to not stuff your face with McDonald’s, Pop Tarts, Hot Pockets and M&M’s.

Chicken, rice, veggies, beans, etc are all very cheap.

A #1 at McDonald’s is way more expensive than a healthy home-cooked meal.

Born in early 90’s.

Seems like it was our generation that kick started it.

1st generation to grow up with video games.

Still have 25-30 year olds who punch out then go home and game all night
