That's a good question.

Guess it has to do with parents today wanting to be their kids' best friends. It isn't cool to say no.

I just saw something on Facebook that was an offer by a local tattoo artist to fix body art that a person now regrets having.

The illustration was a swastika on the back of a dude's head.

I guess the dude that got it was waiting for Nazism to come back in vogue but got impatient.

Don't be so defensive. It doesn't matter how they paid for it. But people are allowed to be curious right? That's the point of an off topic discussion board right? To discuss off topic things?

I'm guessing you meant how can they afford them.

That's my only problem with a lot of these people with alot of tats. They mostly seem like poor trash and I'm sure there was always better things that they could have spent their money on.
Other than that, I don't much care what people do with their bodies.
Anyone with full on neck tats and shite on their face is going to be labeled(and probably corrrectly) and failure in life 99% of the time though.

I would say early 2000's. Allen Iverson was the pioneer of the tattoo movement in basketball.

It started when they moved into their parents basements after college.

It has risen in popularity with the craft beer crowd too.

perhaps with money... teen smoking, alcohol use, and marijuana use are all down, so maybe instead of buying booze and weed, they are getting tattoos...

You realize a full sleeve costs at least $2k. Skimping on beer and weed isn't enough to pay for extensive tattoo work.

I really wonder how these kids are affording all this ink.

I got a fairly large cross tattoo at 15. Have regretted since I was 16 or so. It is hidden by a tshirt, so I rarely even notice it anymore.

Sometimes it catches me by surprise that it's even there.

Uh no.

If you are getting what a guy specialises in, it doesn't take anywhere near the amount of time it normally does.

My buddy can do a full floral sleeve, tons of detail, for under 1k. If the person is ink tolerant, he can knock it out in three sessions.

The OP did say he noticed them on athletes who were being recruited by colleges. Guys like that usually have a mentor/trainer/summer coach that might help with paying for a tattoo.
