The day I didn't have to stand in line for ghost in the machine is the day I declared it to be officially a shelf turd and cheap swill for the unwashed masses.

She is the marketing director for a big title company and was gifting them to clients here and shipping some to clients out of state.

Vietnamese folk love nice cars, pretty sure that’s one of the only reasons they work that hard. Usually driving my old bimmer though.

I remember some woman almost mowed me down trying to get to Randazzo's. I was making the right turn off 17th onto N Hullen and she cut through that post office drop off and damn near hit me.

The phenomenon blew up thanks to 2 things:
1) Social media. "OMG y'all it was like so hard for us to get this king cake but it was #worthit." Hit send. Accumulate clout.
2) Yankees. All the yankees that moved to New Orleans after Katrina are in a competition to prove how New Orleans they are. This feeds into #1.
Meh.
There have been lines for Mardi Gras weekend at Manny Randazzos and Haydel's for a long arse time. Well before the social media trip.
What is mind blowing is knowing how many cakes many cakes some of these people ship out during the mardi gras season. Some will ship 20,000 cakes.

Women standing in line for Dong and posting about it on social media. Welcome to 2020 America.

Most overrated king cake ever...
Gonna have to strongly disagree there. I expected it to be overrated, but it was not. The bread was awesome and the flavor I had was delicious. Had another one about a week ago (same flavor) and it was delicious again. But it's possible I wouldn't enjoy all of the flavors.

It’s made with tiny, slave labor hands...that’s what makes it taste so good.

Before I waste a trip, is it really that kind of place I have to stand in line for a regular king cake?
If you go early in the morning now through next week there will be a line. People go there in pretty big numbers before work.
Starting next Friday or so, it will be a cluster until they sell out(probably before noon)

People are dumb. What can you say?
Drive down North Claiborne until it becomes Judge Perez Dr. Cross over Paris Rd. and on the left will be Nonna Randazzo's. It's the same exact thing as Manny sells. They use the same recipe and ingredients. No line, the woman behind the counter is super nice. They're well stocked and you can pick up some king cake sugar cookies while you're at it.
Social media is awful and the people that post that dumb shite are awful.

Only time I go to Manny Randazzos is at 7a when they open or right after it rains. Usually never a line. I’ll go out of the way for Hi-Do Bakery on terry parkway.

To transplants like me.
My kids can't get enough of them. My daughter literally took the last bites off my son's plate when he wasn't looking. So she is buying the next one to be shipped.

If true, that's new, especially this deep into the season.
Is there a new "in thing" in the king cake world?

I wouldn’t stand in line for a free BJ much less a shitty king cake.
People are dumb.

Yes.
Notice that I said "the phenomenon blew up," not started.

srsly. La Boulangerie's king cake houses Dong Phuong's.
DP's is really good but not the best and certainly overrated.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care about King Cake? Get me one from the grocery store- that's fine. I don't need the gourmet shite.
