When buying a vehicle how do you justify options?

Bigger engine, safety features, comfort features, tech/sound features...
No, some, no, no. I have a real hard time justifying $3k options no matter what they are.
250 hp is enough, I don't need the car to drive itself, heated seats in the back?, air ride, $3k for a B&W sound system is ridiculous (over what comes stock).
So hard to justify the expense, the same vehicle can be priced 150% higher than the next one...are people just ashamed to drive the cheaper one?

Maybe they like the options that they paid for. Crazy concept.

No it isn't.

i find that the second package from the highest has 95% of what i'd want in a car, and i can live without the other 5%. i don't need my running boards to automatically retract

I select the options that I want?

Get what u want dude. It's hard to do that right off the lot.

I opt for the options that I feel are worth it to me and how I intend to use the vehicle.
It's not rocket science.

I like all option upgrades...leather, tech, etc.
I'm still playing with the car I got my wife. Has lots of cool shite.

Options are strictly personal preference.
You can always get a better deal. Do your homework.

No. But if you plan on having the vehicle fora 5-7 years, why not get what you really want. I went cheap twice and bought base model with no options and regretted not just spending a few grand more and having the options I wanted.

All I need is an engine that works and a radio and I'm cool with it.

You sound completely out of touch.

A turbo 4 cylinder at 250 Hp or $3400 more for a turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder at 316 Hp (or $11400 for a 400 Hp hybrid)...that's what the thread's about...how do you justify that?
Of course I think air ride would be cool except it's $1800 and you have to get a $2000 Convenience package with all sorts of dumb shite I don't want, so $3800 for air ride.
Luxury seat package, $3000.
Advanced (pilot drive) package with Vision, $3000.
Premium sound, $3200.
I just can't get on board.

Sounds like you're shopping for a car you can't afford. And the options help on resale value. Duh.

I can afford it, so if I want the option, I buy the option. If I don't, I don't. I don't buy off the lot and have cars built exactly how I want them. So, I never end up paying for unwanted options.

That's cute. I bet you believe your woman when she tells you 5 inches is plenty, too.

This vehicle is being custom built, the delivery date isn't until the middle of September, but they bundle the packages still. I can get some options on their own, like a compass in the rear view, but still...
I got the trailer hitch, the roof bars, a stainless bumper step/guard...looking at the different mats for the back.
Just trying to shore up the options with the concierge.

I go for the cheapest options. It's a car, not a house.

Options justified.

Depends on the use of the vehicle. My car is about 195hp, my wife's is 175hp. All we need for our use.
If you're doing lots of towing, then sure, you'll need more hp.

This. I don't care what other people think of my car. I care what I think of it.
