This sucks but shite happens and mechanics are human beings too.
If they owned up to it and the only thing you are out is some time to deal with it then be thankful that is it.
If they apologize and make good on the repairs then shake hands and move on.
Replacing a wheel and putting new studs on your hub will not result in diminished value.

They probably don't want to get their hands dirty and mess up their manicures.

This is a good point and I'm sure it was in the fine print on the receipt I signed, now that you mention it

These are my thoughts, as well

Not to me but witnessed your scenario twice in person. The look on the driver's faces. Looked like they seen a ghost.

A friend of mine was driving about 65 down Barataria Blvd towards Lafitte in the left lane when her left front wheel came off. The tire and rim went down and across the median (which is fairly wide in that area). When it rolled up the shoulder on the opposite side, it got airborne and went through the windshield of an oncoming car. Not good...
It was a miracle nobody was killed. My friend was distraught. She kept telling the cops, me and anyone within earshot, "It just came off!!!"

I'm glad you made this distinction, I thought OP was the latter.
I was wondering why nobody had posted a response like "Maybe it was the Illuminati trying to take you out for knowing too much."

She has posted some I believe I haven't seen them. I used to be in the loop around here not anymore. She was in here about a week ago talking about weird shite and how she has visions of shite. I was trolling and thinking

new studs
Lugs, not studs. Hence "lugnut". Don't give these people something new. We will have "stud nuts" tied to truck bumpers before long.
And I had the hub blow out on a boat trailer at 2am going to Port Eads on Hwy 23 and the whole thing shot off into a cane field never to be found. Or at least not until that cane cutter found it. Looked like the fricking space shuttle launching.
Now I have a complete hub and bearings mounted as my spare. I can take just tire and rim or complete hub if needed. Anyone towing trailers should consider this.
And I'm eating scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. It's early morning breakfast thread now.

Had an oil change place forget to put new oil filter in after they took the old one out. Caused an issue.
