I just watched the PBS documentary about him and I'm curious of this boards opinion of the man.

Left of FDR. That should say something.
But, he also expanded infrastructure and made Tiger Stadium happen.

A savior as a man of his time. His policies today are not needed, but then they certainly were.
He did more than skim off the top and was to the point of criminal.

Yep. Bloated government, state-run everything, and terrible appropriation policies towards higher-education began with him.
Add in the rampant corruption, and his lore is shameful.

I find it weird a conservative state like Louisiana was voting for socialists in the 1920s-30s.

I read his biography "The Kingfish" which is actually quite good. His life was so unreal that it feels like you are reading a fictional story, but it all happened. Dude was a complete socialist. To put that in perspective, he said Roosevelt wasn't enough of a socialist if that's believable. At the same time, he is a fascinating character. Corrupt, absolutely, but extremely interesting.

His family owes the people of LA a lot of money for stolen o&g royalties....and it’s a crime that the legislature hasn’t done anything about this.

He was a good kind of corrupt. He did some damn good things for this state

I view him more as a power hungry populist...a kleptocrat in the same vein as Chavez/Maduro or just about any tinpot dictator.

Built Tiger Stadium. Nothing else matters.

Anyone that has ever had an influence on La politics is a piece of shite.

Criminal and socialist.
I love reading/watching stuff about him. I find it fascinating.

Poor people are a huge fan of socialism. Louisiana was extremely poor and were tired of it. Not really surprising.

Shady, but no shadier than the governors who came before him. He at least had the redeeming quality of wanting to do something for the common man. His predecessors were in for themselves. He dragged this state kicking and screaming into the twentieth century.

This pretty much captures the LA attitude and it’s perpetual race to the bottom.
