But he also wanted to dismantle big oil and spread the wealth of the upperclass.

We all know how well that goes over in this state

Couldnt possibly be more false. Huey, and all of the subsequent "Long factions" following his death were so completely in bed with big oil that they needed degreaser by the morning.
Any corruption involving big oil, little oil, or anything even indirectly connected comes from Long and his minions. That's a fact.

He was a criminal despot whose corrupt policies cost LA billions of dollars and set the state back decades.

But he built up LSU so that makes him OK in my book!

Yep, people love a crooked authoritarian as long as it's their crooked authoritarian.

He was a player that played the poor, just like Bill C and Jimmy C. People never learn.

This was his "share our wealth" proposal. Income cap, inheritance cap, basic income...

He'd probably be a frontrunner in today's Democratic Party.

Answer: Self serving power hungry scum like most politicians.

I think his family and friends ancestors still collect.

Jerry Long great nephew to Huey says that back in the day politics didn't pay much. To prove his point he slow pays or underpays all invoices.
However, his "legit OT baller" CCLA house directly behind the clubhouse on 18th hole suggest otherwise. And of course he treats you like a servant to bring home the point.

He was one helluva defensive end, not that big of a fan of him as an analyst.

Didn't Long basically get elected because of his open hatred of Standard Oil? Didn't he also make a legal career fighting big oil...? I mean, those are the historic facts I know about Long. Do you have sources for what you're saying...or is it just like, stuff your paw paw used to tell you...?

I feel like Long just fought the Man and everyone hating on him in this thread is middle-aged to old.

For God's sakes, he was the first politician we had to look around and go, "Hey, maybe the state government's job should be to build roads and bridges to connect all this swampland between our important cities. Also, books and colleges are good things, so we should care about those too."

Like other people in this thread have said, he dragged Louisiana kicking and screaming into the 20th century...where it has remained since.

Built a bridge just low enough to keep ocean going vessels from reaching Memphis. A lot of people own him for their jobs.

Also a crook!

Trump could have used this one.

You think ocean going vessels could reach Memphis if the bridge wasn't there?
