We were talking Frisco and McKinney, but my point about under $300k still stands there. That's not happening unelss you go out past Rockwall, north of 380, or off 80 to the southeast.

I think we are currently at a really good point in our life. It's so hard for me to tell right now with so much student loan debt hanging over our heads. Fortunately, we can pay it off in 3.5-5 years; however, it is hard to realize the QoL it could bring if we were enjoying that money now.

This thread is just all over the place so it's really impossible to follow what people are claiming.

OP didn't really set parameters, but I took it as where you can live the lifestyle most of us on the OT talk about and not worry about money at all. In other words, an upscale if not lavish lifestyle. Then I referenced living IN a major city, with a family, etc. in talking about how 110k wouldn't get you too far in that context.

That was the premise, but then it branched to suburbs and family/no family and ideal vs. survival, etc.

People are mostly just talking past each other now, really

It's a lot cheaper to live in the suburbs than the city.

I’m late to this party but 52k seems too low.

An increasing number of companies are in-tune with work-life balance and with the ability to work remotely, I’m not sure I have a number.

Too many variables here. I can say, living in or near Athens, if you get this and a nice benefits package, it's a good deal. For one person, not for two working adults. Working for the state, I have a ton of annual leave, sick leave, great insurance and teacher's retirement. Assuming my wife is still working, too, I can do just fine on this.

As I look out of my window on 114 down towards 183 and the plethora of 10+ story buildings going up. I have a really hard time believing Las Colinas will still be a "suburb" in the next few years.

In fact Dallas County overall are losing people at a crazy pace to Collin / Denton / Tarrant counties.

Dallas will become a "suburb" as the population continues to move.

Anyways, you can definitely live well off on 100k in DFW in general.

The household goal should be 150k though. That will literally get you most places in great ISD's.

Nah I get tired of folks calling cities burbs when clearly they are not.

And its DFW, the land of I need to be better than my neighbor. Hence why it isn't for everyone.

I mean, most people will consider Irving to be a suburb of Dallas, right? Seems weird to make that a sticking point.
